Laura Buckley joins us on the Dorsey Ross Show to share her extraordinary journey of faith and her mission to bridge the gap between science and spirituality. Motivated by a deep conversation with her son, who had doubts about his faith, Laura dedicated herself to creating resources that offer tangible evidence and insights into Christianity. A heartfelt compliment from a choir member further fueled her passion for writing, spurring her commitment to provide hope and encouragement to others seeking faith.

Explore five compelling reasons to trust in God, ranging from historical artifacts and the intricacies of DNA to philosophical concepts and miraculous occurrences that defy explanation. Laura and I discuss how these elements serve as evidence of divine creation, while also highlighting the mental and physical health benefits that faith can bring. With personal stories of miracles, including a life-changing car accident during my teenage years, we reinforce the belief in a higher power through extraordinary experiences.

Life's toughest trials often test our faith, and Laura shares insights on building trust in God through ongoing challenges and daily conversations. As she navigates writing about faith amidst self-doubt and external pressure, she finds strength through her relationship with God and support from loved ones. Together, we reflect on personal stories of hardship, including my husband's accidents and the loss of my mother. These experiences ultimately renewed our sense of purpose and resilience, proving that faith can be a guiding light through the darkest times.

00:00:15.451 --> 00:00:21.923
Hello everyone, thank you again for joining me on another episode of the DorsiD Rush Show.

00:00:24.955 --> 00:00:37.320
Her name is Laura Buckley, who is a devoted Christian writer who is committed to exploring the profound aspects of faith and spirituality.

00:00:58.121 --> 00:01:25.935
Raising faith with readers around the world.

00:01:25.935 --> 00:01:29.685
Laura has embarked on proof to reinforce the reader's confidence in God's provision and love.

00:01:29.685 --> 00:01:47.419
Laura's unique approach combines thorough research, personal reflection and a passion for connecting with readers on a solid excuse me, whole deep level.

00:01:47.419 --> 00:01:58.879
Her writing seeks to create a safe and welcoming space for individuals seeking spiritual understanding and a closer relationship with the divine.

00:01:58.879 --> 00:02:02.413
Laura, thank you so much for coming on the show today.

00:02:03.414 --> 00:02:05.300
Well, thank you, Dorsey, for having me.

00:02:05.300 --> 00:02:06.342
I appreciate it.

00:02:06.770 --> 00:02:20.782
Absolutely, and, as my guests know, I always open up with an icebreaker question, and today's icebreaker question is what's the best compliment you ever received?

00:02:22.512 --> 00:02:25.117
Oh, wow, that's a big question.

00:02:25.117 --> 00:02:28.860
The best compliment I've ever received?

00:02:28.860 --> 00:02:35.497
Okay, I'm going to have to go with the best most recent compliment I've received, one of the ladies from my church.

00:02:35.497 --> 00:02:36.480
She's in my choir group.

00:02:36.480 --> 00:02:40.099
I've been getting her to read the book for a while.

00:02:40.099 --> 00:02:41.412
She said she's going to.

00:02:41.412 --> 00:02:51.737
She finally started reading it and she came to me in just complete, utter awe it's the only way I can describe it.

00:02:51.737 --> 00:02:56.975
She looked at me and she said Laura, that is an amazing book.

00:02:56.975 --> 00:02:59.901
You've written so insightful, so well-written.

00:02:59.901 --> 00:03:02.010
I just I can't believe it.

00:03:02.010 --> 00:03:04.957
And I, you know, and part of me goes, part of me goes.

00:03:04.957 --> 00:03:08.692
Well, okay, do people not think that I can do that?

00:03:08.692 --> 00:03:15.004
But she was so sincere, so absolutely sincere, that you know it's like.

00:03:15.004 --> 00:03:21.960
And when people come to you and tell you that you did something great and wonderful, then you know it's nothing.

00:03:21.960 --> 00:03:25.906
But you know, inspiring to myself, right.

00:03:27.371 --> 00:03:29.939
Why are you passionate about what you do?

00:03:32.231 --> 00:03:41.210
I think I'm passionate because of my son, my son.

00:03:41.210 --> 00:03:55.524
So to give you a little information about you know how I got to where I am with writing this book, my son, who's a very loving, kind, big hearted, uh, young man, about six years ago, when he was about 16 or so, he came to me one day and he said, mom, I don't think, I believe anymore.

00:03:55.524 --> 00:03:58.236
And and I'm like, what do you mean?

00:03:58.236 --> 00:04:10.711
And it took him a lot of strength to come to me and tell me that and we talked about it for like a good hour, I would say about you know what made him not believe?

00:04:10.711 --> 00:04:13.757
And he's gone to church, he went to religious ed classes.

00:04:13.757 --> 00:04:39.473
You know, he just in his school he was a scientific, you know type kid and very much into those type of classes computer, et cetera and he had classmates that just simply didn't believe and apparently a lot of stuff that they teach in school is very non, non, god, non, you know, supernatural, not any.

00:04:39.473 --> 00:04:43.762
And for him he that's what he was hearing, that's what he heard.

00:04:43.762 --> 00:04:54.175
So the last thing I told him was, if I can find information, he wanted some proof, some tangible proof.

00:04:54.175 --> 00:04:57.220
And he goes if I can find you something, would you listen to me?

00:04:57.220 --> 00:05:00.084
Would you listen to what I'm telling you?

00:05:00.084 --> 00:05:01.752
And he goes yes.

00:05:01.752 --> 00:05:14.555
So it took me a little while and I put together some information for him and got that information in front of him, including this ginormous book of scientific proof for him, because that's what he was into.

00:05:14.555 --> 00:05:34.862
But we watched, you know, like a video, and went through some different basically it was more of the artifacts type thing and where you know all the different manuscripts are and the fact that this stuff is still there, still, you know, tangibly there, and I guess he only read like one chapter, one chapter of that scientific book.

00:05:34.862 --> 00:05:42.271
And he ended up going okay, if they can write that long of a book over scientific proof, I'm good, I'm good.

00:05:42.271 --> 00:05:47.732
So, and that wasn't the start of it, that was just kind of like okay, that's cool.

00:05:47.752 --> 00:06:09.959
But then I realized, with my research and with his knowledge, I was like wait a minute, there's nothing out there for these young adults to grab a hold of and say out there for these young adults to grab a hold of and say, in a fairly short, respectively, attention span, to go okay, here's a reason to believe, here's a reason to believe.

00:06:09.959 --> 00:06:18.180
Here's a reason to believe Because it's just like I said that big, you know, thick book type thing on one subject, or you know just a couple subjects and these kids just need something to go.

00:06:18.180 --> 00:06:19.432
Should I believe or not believe?

00:06:19.432 --> 00:06:25.720
And then at that point then you take it from there and go okay, I believe.

00:06:25.720 --> 00:06:27.744
Now where do I want to go?

00:06:27.744 --> 00:06:33.422
As far as my knowledge and further research, I, you know, I like this idea, I like what was presented.

00:06:33.422 --> 00:06:39.257
I want to go the scientific way, I want to go the historic way or I want to go, you know, just you know, into the church and go from there.

00:06:39.257 --> 00:06:40.959
So, yeah, Was.

00:06:40.978 --> 00:06:43.283
That was the book that your son read.

00:06:43.283 --> 00:06:53.564
Do you remember the title of it and who wrote it, and was it based on a, on the Christian faith, or was it just a secular book that somebody came up with?

00:06:54.891 --> 00:07:01.134
You know, I do not have that book in front of me, so I apologize, I don't have that book in front of me, so I apologize, I don't have that.

00:07:01.134 --> 00:07:03.997
It was definitely just a huge scientific book.

00:07:03.997 --> 00:07:17.050
You know, for him he said, you know he understood the first chapter, but it was really hard, you know, to really understand he goes.

00:07:17.050 --> 00:07:22.634
You know, there's no way somebody would just pick up this book and read this and feel like, hey, oh, that makes sense to me and as far as you know it was.

00:07:22.634 --> 00:07:30.218
It was I don't know if I want to say it was Christian based because, honestly, I didn't read it because it was just too much for me.

00:07:30.218 --> 00:07:35.913
I'm not of that mindset, but you know, it just kind of proved that there was a God.

00:07:35.973 --> 00:08:20.144
And I think science nowadays have gone to that point, or gone further, to that point of, oh well, because we cannot prove that there isn't a God and because certain things we cannot explain in our scientific research, there's got to be something that's larger than, you know, the Big Bang Theory or whatever they're going with at the time, that shows that there's something out there that started this, that caused this, that caused at least that initial reaction, the initial start to the universe and our DNA and how our DNA is made up and so unique for each person.

00:08:20.144 --> 00:08:23.872
You know, three billion letters long the DNA is.

00:08:23.872 --> 00:08:30.215
I mean, you know, this stuff doesn't just pop out of the air, and I think that's what the scientists are now saying.

00:08:30.215 --> 00:08:34.795
They're like this kind of stuff we can't reproduce, we can't make this happen.

00:08:34.795 --> 00:08:39.920
You know, this isn't something that, there's something else that influenced this and caused this.

00:08:40.370 --> 00:08:46.202
You mentioned that you wrote a book and it's called 21 Reasons for Trusting in God.

00:08:46.202 --> 00:08:53.002
Can you give us five of those reasons why we should trust in God?

00:08:54.573 --> 00:09:16.386
Oh, sure, sure, Well, so if you want, like that proof type thing, there's a hundred thousand artifacts in existence that will prove the biblical during the time of Jesus, that the whole gospel, like it, goes back to different sections of the gospel and proves the gospel.

00:09:16.386 --> 00:09:22.562
So that's an amazing number of artifacts that are there and available.

00:09:22.562 --> 00:09:24.754
And I mentioned the DNA.

00:09:24.754 --> 00:09:29.829
The DNA is one of the other things that kind of proves God's existence.

00:09:29.829 --> 00:09:38.364
Because they can't reproduce that that information is just unreproducible, so that's a great one.

00:09:38.364 --> 00:09:43.632
Just unreproducible, so that's a great one.

00:09:43.652 --> 00:09:47.219
One of the things that they talk about a lot in the philosophical end of things is that there has to be a cause.

00:09:47.219 --> 00:09:52.434
So if something exists, something caused it to exist.

00:09:52.434 --> 00:09:56.362
And this is more of a mental twister type thing.

00:09:56.362 --> 00:10:04.584
You know that a lot of people don't get into, but you know some do where, if there is something that exists, there had to be a cause.

00:10:04.584 --> 00:10:06.811
Therefore, if it does exist, there was a cause.

00:10:06.811 --> 00:10:07.933
What was that cause?

00:10:07.933 --> 00:10:12.543
And that's kind of a logical explanation for God.

00:10:15.871 --> 00:10:17.392
Okay, other things are miracles.

00:10:17.392 --> 00:10:34.664
Miracles are huge and I don't think they're I don't want to say in the news enough, but they're not readily available enough because they happen on a very regular basis and we just don't hear about them, don't know about them.

00:10:34.664 --> 00:10:45.150
Lot of doctors probably maybe you know know about some of those that happen, you know, in the hospital.

00:10:45.150 --> 00:10:52.250
But there's things that happen outside the hospital whether it be at Lourdes or just a prayer going into a church that happen all the time and there's no way to explain it.

00:10:52.250 --> 00:11:00.924
No way to explain it except that there is somebody larger than us that is looking out for us, protecting us and caring for us.

00:11:00.924 --> 00:11:07.582
So to me that's a huge proof as well, because I've had that happen in my own life.

00:11:08.870 --> 00:11:12.778
And then you know if you want another one, it's just health-wise.

00:11:12.778 --> 00:11:28.284
If you don't believe in God and don't have that trust in something protecting you and looking out for you, you can get really, I think, mentally kind of messed up.

00:11:28.284 --> 00:11:35.262
You know, you can get kind of really into your head thinking about all this stuff and that causes physical reactions.

00:11:35.262 --> 00:11:59.096
And so they have proven through different studies that when people believe in a God, believe in his protection, believe in his love, they calm down, their blood pressure goes down, they accept things better, they feel better, they can handle things better and, honestly, just the peace that it brings me.

00:11:59.096 --> 00:12:03.351
I you know, there's nothing else that can cause that.

00:12:03.351 --> 00:12:04.775
There's nothing else that can cause that.

00:12:04.775 --> 00:12:07.551
So those are just some quick overviews.

00:12:07.551 --> 00:12:10.037
I guess that I just gave you, but yeah.

00:12:10.678 --> 00:12:10.959
You know.

00:12:10.959 --> 00:12:35.702
Going back to the artifacts that you mentioned, that they found, you know, in the Bible readings and you know, for the Bible times, I was doing a, you know, youth group study on certain videos and they were talking about that they haven't like excavated, they only excavated like 5% of the whole area of the Bible.

00:12:35.702 --> 00:12:37.496
You know for the Bible times.

00:12:38.789 --> 00:12:44.334
Okay, yeah, yeah, so there's probably so much more there that we just don't have in our hands For the Bible times.

00:12:44.354 --> 00:12:47.376
Okay, yeah, yeah, so there's probably so much more there that we just don't have in our hands.

00:12:47.416 --> 00:13:02.312
I know they found the cross and there was a miracle that happened when they first found the cross and it was kind of how they tested, because there was three crosses right, and there's three crosses there with the two thieves and then Jesus in the middle, and they all were kind of made of the same material.

00:13:02.472 --> 00:13:31.399
They knew that it was a material from back then, but what they did is they had a lady who I don't know what her symptoms were, I don't remember at this point in time sick in some way, needed some sort of healing in some way, and they touch the crosses and when she touched what they now say is Jesus's original you know, the cross that he was crucified on she was healed, and so that's how they knew.

00:13:31.399 --> 00:13:33.830
And there's more healings that have happened since then.

00:13:33.830 --> 00:14:32.533
The cross has actually been splintered and pulled apart and I wish it hadn't.

00:14:32.533 --> 00:14:44.891
That just makes me cringe a little bit, but there's pieces of the cross that have been on display throughout the world and you know people have used that kind of just like touching his cloak when he was alive or whatever.

00:14:44.951 --> 00:14:49.807
So yeah, Tell us about your first miracle at 15.

00:14:51.331 --> 00:14:51.952
Sure, sure.

00:14:51.952 --> 00:14:58.802
So this was a big like OK, there's a God, you know, because I believed in God before that.

00:14:58.802 --> 00:14:59.924
I believed through.

00:14:59.924 --> 00:15:02.913
You know what my parents taught me through going to church.

00:15:03.079 --> 00:15:07.607
But when I was 15, I was with my friend in a car.

00:15:07.607 --> 00:15:10.332
She was just a driving age.

00:15:10.332 --> 00:15:13.827
I didn't have a seat belt on because her seat belt didn't work.

00:15:13.827 --> 00:15:14.349
I tried.

00:15:14.349 --> 00:15:19.480
This was when seatbelts were fairly new as well, so it was no big deal for me not to have a seatbelt on.

00:15:20.221 --> 00:15:33.891
But she was driving us back home and she was talking to me, just kind of looking at me, and I kind of looked up and I saw in front of me the light was red and a car coming through and there was no time for her to react.

00:15:33.891 --> 00:15:36.094
We were going straight into the car.

00:15:36.094 --> 00:15:40.985
We went straight into the car and straight into a tree.

00:15:40.985 --> 00:15:54.788
I didn't realize it at the time, but I was passed out and laying on my friend's lap, so I was actually over in the driver's side and these were big cars back then, not to age myself too much here.

00:15:54.788 --> 00:15:57.333
But I looked in the window and this is what I remember.

00:15:57.333 --> 00:16:03.086
I looked in the window and there was a gentleman there and he just looked at me and he goes are you okay?

00:16:03.086 --> 00:16:05.772
And I just kind of responded yes.

00:16:05.772 --> 00:16:15.159
And the next thing I know I was waking up, saw myself on my friend's lap got myself, you know, back together, for whatever reason.

00:16:15.279 --> 00:16:22.146
My reaction was starting to pick up my purse because my stuff flew everywhere and you know, we had then the first.

00:16:22.146 --> 00:16:24.471
I could hear the ambulance and everything coming.

00:16:24.471 --> 00:16:28.530
They were quickly coming and they came up to the window and they were asking us if we were OK.

00:16:28.530 --> 00:16:34.690
At this point my friend, you know, kind of came back to and we're like, yeah, we're okay, where's the guy?

00:16:34.690 --> 00:16:36.453
Where's the guy that was just here?

00:16:36.453 --> 00:16:39.104
This guy was just here and he asked me if I was okay.

00:16:39.104 --> 00:16:42.761
Already they're looking around and there's nobody else here.

00:16:42.761 --> 00:16:44.806
We're the first ones on the scene.

00:16:44.806 --> 00:16:46.670
Nobody's standing around.

00:16:46.670 --> 00:16:51.462
That looks like the gentleman that I described to them, so he wasn't there.

00:16:52.764 --> 00:17:09.636
To kind of further on the story, what really kind of put it at home is that when they took the car in to the junkyard because the car was totaled our car was totaled, which neither of us were injured, by the way, not, you know anything, big, just sore Took the car into the junkyard.

00:17:09.636 --> 00:17:16.483
The junkyard manager said, hey, I'm so sorry for your loss.

00:17:16.483 --> 00:17:17.887
And they're like what are you talking about?

00:17:17.887 --> 00:17:28.783
And they said, well, the junkyard manager said, well, the person that went through the windshield on the passenger side, you know, obviously passed away.

00:17:28.783 --> 00:17:37.850
I've never seen anybody live, you know, hitting the windshield like that and they're like no, she's perfectly fine at home, just a little sore.

00:17:37.850 --> 00:17:58.890
So that just kind of that whole combination of seeing that figure in the window and then knowing that I hit that windshield so hard that they thought I should have passed away, you know, that just kind of really made me feel like okay, there's somebody watching out for me and my parents, my mom even said there's a reason why you're still alive.

00:17:59.632 --> 00:18:06.834
Yeah, now, that person that was by the window asking you, are you okay?

00:18:06.834 --> 00:18:13.988
Could it have been the other driver or somebody else from the other car, or was that disproven?

00:18:15.881 --> 00:18:17.163
Yeah, the other car.

00:18:17.163 --> 00:18:21.613
There was a lady driving, nobody else, just a lady driving that car.

00:18:21.613 --> 00:18:25.330
She did get in the ambulance but she was okay in the end.

00:18:25.330 --> 00:18:32.641
You know I don't know the whole story because it was my friend's car and her driving, but she wasn't, you know, hurt to the point where she was.

00:18:32.641 --> 00:18:37.753
You know she went home that night later too, there was nobody standing around.

00:18:37.753 --> 00:18:48.185
You know, if somebody's going to come up to your car and say, are you okay, and you know the fireman, he's like we're the first ones on the scene, I, you know there's nobody else here.

00:18:48.185 --> 00:18:50.649
They don't just disappear that quickly.

00:18:50.649 --> 00:18:59.340
So you know, and typically if somebody was wanting to check on you, if you're okay, they kind of watch out and stand around and you know, yeah, yeah.

00:18:59.539 --> 00:19:21.172
So I truly believe it was an angel of some sort your bio and on your website that as you got older in your college years you started to drift away a little bit from you know from God or from your belief in God.

00:19:21.172 --> 00:19:22.894
And why was that?

00:19:24.680 --> 00:19:28.150
College years are really hard, I think, you know, for a lot of people.

00:19:28.150 --> 00:19:33.964
You want to, you want to play the college role, you want to enjoy yourself, you want to.

00:19:33.964 --> 00:19:41.286
You know you're studying, you're meeting new people, you're trying to get used to living in a dorm room with somebody else.

00:19:41.286 --> 00:19:44.440
So the last thing you usually do is just get up and go.

00:19:44.440 --> 00:19:46.043
Okay, I'm going to go to church this morning.

00:19:46.043 --> 00:19:47.446
You know, it just doesn't.

00:19:47.967 --> 00:19:55.128
I don't know why, you know it doesn't always connect with people, but that kind of, you know, I felt it.

00:19:55.128 --> 00:20:02.108
I felt immediately when I started doing that I was like, oh man, I miss that connection, I miss going to church.

00:20:02.108 --> 00:20:12.652
And it's an interesting thing because you just kind of that connection, that community that you have at church, dissipates so quickly if you're not going on a regular basis.

00:20:12.652 --> 00:20:16.911
So I think you know that just really hit home for me.

00:20:16.911 --> 00:20:20.150
I felt like I needed to go and I did try to go.

00:20:20.150 --> 00:20:49.421
I think I, you know, tried to go on occasion, went to a couple activities that they had, you know, in the social hall type thing, social hall type thing, and luckily I found a group of friends in our dorm that were very Christian and they helped, you know, introduce me to music, and we went and visited other churches and kind of re-centered myself to saying, okay, yeah, yep, I got to keep God, you know, in the forefront, or at least somewhere nearby, somewhere nearby.

00:20:55.087 --> 00:21:01.195
In your book that we mentioned earlier, you talked about trusting in God.

00:21:01.195 --> 00:21:07.840
How do you personally define and practice trust in your daily life?

00:21:08.720 --> 00:21:09.986
Yeah, that's a good question.

00:21:09.986 --> 00:21:18.608
I think putting trust in God is really a long-term, everyday thing that you have to work on.

00:21:18.608 --> 00:21:26.255
It's not, you know, I trust that he is looking over my activities and what I do.

00:21:26.255 --> 00:21:27.977
Now, I haven't always been that way.

00:21:27.977 --> 00:21:30.042
Now, I haven't always been that way.

00:21:30.062 --> 00:21:37.448
There was a long time where I felt like, okay, I believe in God, it's good, I believe in Jesus, it's good.

00:21:37.448 --> 00:21:49.777
But I'm, you know, walking through life like a lot of people do, just walking through life, doing my own thing, whether it be, you know, work, friends, whatever I'm doing, family, et cetera.

00:21:49.777 --> 00:21:57.647
But at least in those days, I wasn't giving my all to God, I wasn't giving my heart, my soul to God.

00:21:57.647 --> 00:22:28.653
And honestly, since I wrote the book, between the time that I started writing the book and even till just within the last couple of months, I really now, just now, feel like, okay, I know what it means to trust in God, because I had to get really close to him and I feel like people need to really realize that being close to God means talking to him, not just once a day, not just okay, I'm going to say a quick prayer in the morning, the Our Father in the evening and I'm done.

00:22:29.621 --> 00:22:35.287
It's a relationship and that relationship has to be fostered, just like any other relationship.

00:22:35.287 --> 00:22:44.889
It's not that he's not there for you, it's not that he doesn't love you and wants to have that relationship, but you have to put that effort in for Him to really for you to hear Him and connect with Him.

00:22:44.889 --> 00:22:54.127
It's your end that can't connect sometimes, I think, with God enough that you can really feel that full trust and that full love.

00:22:54.127 --> 00:22:58.269
It's hard to explain, but you'll feel it inside.

00:22:58.269 --> 00:23:00.166
You'll feel it inside and you'll know it.

00:23:00.407 --> 00:23:00.849
You'll know it.

00:23:01.941 --> 00:23:02.402
Every day.

00:23:02.402 --> 00:23:15.413
Now I just, you know, I ask him for his guidance, I ask him for him to protect me, to show me what to do for that day, and then at the end of the day, you know, just kind of say did I do the right thing?

00:23:15.413 --> 00:23:17.516
Please help me to do better tomorrow.

00:23:19.362 --> 00:23:34.941
Yeah, if you know, for people that are listening that may feel like they lack trust in God, how would you?

00:23:34.941 --> 00:23:35.121
You know?

00:23:35.121 --> 00:23:36.304
What encouragement would you?

00:23:36.384 --> 00:23:37.447
give to them to help them to trust in God more.

00:23:37.447 --> 00:23:41.497
Yeah, I mean, obviously as a selfish point, I would say read the book.

00:23:41.497 --> 00:23:46.368
Okay, just because trusting first of all comes with belief.

00:23:46.368 --> 00:23:51.767
Okay, you can't trust in somebody you know until you're friends with somebody, know somebody.

00:23:51.767 --> 00:23:53.592
You don't put your trust in them completely.

00:23:53.592 --> 00:23:56.087
So you have to get to know them first.

00:23:56.160 --> 00:24:00.291
You have to go through that process of who is God?

00:24:00.291 --> 00:24:02.205
Why should I believe in him?

00:24:02.205 --> 00:24:03.610
Now I believe.

00:24:03.610 --> 00:24:05.307
What do I do with this belief?

00:24:05.307 --> 00:24:07.027
Where do I go with this belief?

00:24:07.027 --> 00:24:09.487
How am I supposed to connect with him?

00:24:09.487 --> 00:24:10.705
How does he help me?

00:24:10.705 --> 00:24:12.012
Where do I connect?

00:24:12.012 --> 00:24:12.544
How do I supposed to connect with him?

00:24:12.544 --> 00:24:13.008
How does he help me?

00:24:13.008 --> 00:24:13.294
Where do I connect?

00:24:13.294 --> 00:24:13.945
How do I serve him?

00:24:13.945 --> 00:24:16.389
Or how do I you know what is my next steps?

00:24:16.389 --> 00:24:38.266
And all this has to come, and it's kind of sequential, I believe, and in your life to then, once you get all those pieces put together, that relationship is really kind of stronger, because then you know, you know in your heart that, oh, god is real, I can put my faith in him, I know he's there for me.

00:24:38.266 --> 00:24:43.750
And you just go through that process of for me and I'm just going to be Dorsey.

00:24:43.750 --> 00:24:45.673
This was one of the things that I did.

00:24:46.019 --> 00:24:54.407
After I wrote the book I'm like it brought up more questions and that's why in the book I say quite often that's okay, questions are good.

00:24:54.407 --> 00:25:05.016
Questions are good Because I needed those questions to continue my research, to continue my journey, to continue my belief myself.

00:25:05.016 --> 00:25:07.041
Because all these questions popped up.

00:25:07.041 --> 00:25:12.393
So those questions, once I got you know, started answering those questions that I had.

00:25:12.393 --> 00:25:15.885
Then I knew, okay, now I got my answers.

00:25:15.885 --> 00:25:21.647
Now I know, now I completely 100% in there and I think everybody has a different journey.

00:25:21.647 --> 00:25:27.188
Everybody's going to have a different you know timeframe in which they go through, but you have to go through it.

00:25:27.188 --> 00:25:35.083
You have to keep fighting for it and keep learning and answer those questions and find that relationship with our Lord.

00:25:36.807 --> 00:25:45.813
What challenges did you face while writing the book and how did you faith guide you through those challenges?

00:26:06.101 --> 00:26:06.161
Hmm.

00:26:06.161 --> 00:26:07.862
So challenges, you know, faith had to be there to write the book.

00:26:07.862 --> 00:26:09.384
So challenges for me were mentally am I doing the right thing?

00:26:09.384 --> 00:26:09.844
Am I hearing God?

00:26:09.844 --> 00:26:11.164
Is this what God wants me to write?

00:26:11.185 --> 00:26:27.077
I was being challenged, by friends as well, challenged by just what was happening in my world around me, whether it be finances, trying to find money to produce the book, whether it be just time frame that it took me to write the book in comparison to what I wanted.

00:26:27.077 --> 00:26:39.562
And just I felt like I was constantly being barraged by questioning myself, and I don't know that it was God questioning, I don't know.

00:26:39.562 --> 00:26:42.616
I think there was other forces making me do that.

00:26:42.616 --> 00:26:49.817
Okay, so I think there's, you know, good and evil in this world, and the evil didn't want me to write the book.

00:26:49.817 --> 00:26:54.531
So so, yeah, those challenges were there and it took actually my husband.

00:26:54.551 --> 00:26:55.971
He finally looked at me and goes we talked about this, laura.

00:26:55.971 --> 00:26:56.612
And it took actually my husband.

00:26:56.612 --> 00:26:57.313
He finally looked at me and goes.

00:26:57.313 --> 00:27:13.443
We talked about this, laura that when you write this book, that he's not going to like it, that you know Satan's going to be there and he's going to take you on a journey himself, and that's what this is right now, so go back to God and don't let him take over.

00:27:13.443 --> 00:27:15.286
So those were the.

00:27:15.286 --> 00:27:18.368
You know that was a big challenge, right?

00:27:21.630 --> 00:27:23.192
Tell us about the accident your husband had.

00:27:23.272 --> 00:27:42.230
Oh, you know and this is interesting, dorsey, because just before we got on this podcast I'm like that's right, I forgot because the accident took over my mind at the time and two days before.

00:27:42.230 --> 00:27:52.505
So it was on a weekend that my husband went up to see his mom and when he went up there he had stopped and eaten something, but he had just started a new medicine and when he got up there he started feeling bad.

00:27:52.505 --> 00:27:55.032
The next day he's like calling me going.

00:27:55.032 --> 00:28:00.844
I don't feel good, I've been throwing up, I've got something I don't know if it was the food I ate, et cetera.

00:28:00.844 --> 00:28:17.096
About four hours later I got this phone call saying from his mom going okay, took him to the hospital because he couldn't breathe and he was having such a severe allergic reaction that he went into that anaphylactic shock stage where he couldn't breathe.

00:28:17.096 --> 00:28:19.518
So I thought I lost him then.

00:28:20.411 --> 00:28:38.307
And he comes home Sunday night we go out to dinner and Monday he falls off a ladder two stories high and he ended up just totally blasting, both of you know, in the bottom half of your leg.

00:28:38.307 --> 00:28:42.719
Don't ask me to remember the names of those two bones back down there, but right below his knee.

00:28:42.719 --> 00:28:49.072
Both of those bones just were completely shattered to the point where they couldn't count the pieces when they were in there trying to put them back together.

00:28:49.072 --> 00:29:08.258
He had carp, carp, carp oh, I cannot say the word carp where you the carpmental syndrome, where they, you know, like inside your body, it tries to kill that part of your body because it's just too much for your body and it says, okay, I'm going to get rid of that part of my body.

00:29:08.258 --> 00:29:12.500
And so they had to go in and do a first surgery just to take care of that.

00:29:12.500 --> 00:29:16.231
Three weeks or two weeks later they finally had him put back together.

00:29:16.231 --> 00:29:19.554
They had a bunch of you, bunch of pieces of metal in him.

00:29:19.554 --> 00:29:21.175
Put him back together, okay, great.

00:29:21.914 --> 00:29:34.682
So he had a long haul trying to heal and he was starting to go to get his therapy and the next thing, you know, he has an infection and the infection meant that they had to take out all those pieces of metal in him.

00:29:34.682 --> 00:29:39.365
And the doctor at this time had been talking to me beforehand.

00:29:39.365 --> 00:29:53.298
But you know, kind of, really, at this particular stage, stage, said Laura, we're likely going to have to remove his leg because it's just it's not going to heal properly.

00:29:53.298 --> 00:29:56.634
There's too much, there's so much damage, there's so much pain that he's going to have being able to walk.

00:29:56.634 --> 00:29:57.945
It's going to have being able to walk.

00:29:57.945 --> 00:29:58.951
Is going to be a struggle.

00:29:58.951 --> 00:30:02.423
Just letting you know to be prepared for this.

00:30:03.046 --> 00:30:07.239
But of course we didn't tell my husband, because why would you tell somebody that that might happen to them?

00:30:07.239 --> 00:30:07.538
Right?

00:30:07.538 --> 00:30:10.133
You know you want them to fight as best they could.

00:30:10.133 --> 00:30:12.576
So he thought, fought through it.

00:30:12.576 --> 00:30:21.306
And to all of us, including the doctor, our surprise is that he walks basically normal.

00:30:21.306 --> 00:30:24.798
I mean, you know, if you don't really look for it, you don't know.

00:30:24.798 --> 00:30:27.352
It's there, right, he's probably.

00:30:27.352 --> 00:30:36.018
There's a separation between his right knee and his left knee as far as height goes, but right now it's not affecting him.

00:30:36.018 --> 00:30:41.681
Tons of scars, obviously, on his leg, but he can walk normally.

00:30:41.681 --> 00:30:48.840
And the doctor said no, there's something higher, something bigger, looking out for you, because there was no way that that was me.

00:30:48.840 --> 00:30:50.583
Amen, yeah.

00:30:53.010 --> 00:30:55.979
You've been through a lot in your life and your family's been through a lot in their life.

00:30:55.979 --> 00:30:58.467
You know your family Things do a lot in their life.

00:30:58.467 --> 00:31:11.604
Yet you still grew closer to God when someone would or would you know, maybe would even walk away and say you know, god's not real, god's not in this.

00:31:11.604 --> 00:31:16.081
You know why is he throwing this all at me at one time.

00:31:16.081 --> 00:31:18.177
I can't handle this anymore.

00:31:18.177 --> 00:31:24.531
Throwing this all at me at one time.

00:31:24.531 --> 00:31:25.471
I can't handle this anymore.

00:31:25.471 --> 00:31:25.792
Why was it that?

00:31:27.454 --> 00:31:28.535
you grew closer to God.

00:31:28.535 --> 00:31:31.057
Yeah, and it's true, and I think a lot of people would.

00:31:31.057 --> 00:31:37.044
And I was there, I was there, I was almost there.

00:31:37.044 --> 00:31:41.870
So I think it's hard, depending on where you're at.

00:31:41.870 --> 00:31:50.539
You know, god gives you just enough things and gives you enough strength to get through things right, and my things were not as bad as other people's.

00:31:50.539 --> 00:32:03.003
I mean, I just can't imagine some people's trials that they go through, but the trials are there for a reason and I knew it after my husband fell off the roof and when he was healing, I was like there's something bigger, something bigger.

00:32:03.003 --> 00:32:06.355
God's testing us right now and he's preparing us.

00:32:06.355 --> 00:32:11.253
And I think that the breaking point was when my mom unexpectedly passed.

00:32:12.716 --> 00:32:14.881
At that time we were just over COVID.

00:32:14.881 --> 00:32:34.776
We were just over COVID, so you weren't going to church, we weren't doing the things like you normally do, and I kind of just probably like a lot of people, kind of fell away from God a little bit then too, because I just you just didn't have that community, you just didn't have that constant reminder and practice and activity.

00:32:34.776 --> 00:32:37.880
And I was there.

00:32:37.880 --> 00:32:38.721
I was there.

00:32:38.721 --> 00:32:49.652
I had lost not only my mom, but my dad has Alzheimer's, dementia, heart issues, so he needed a lot of care, so we were taking turns caring for him.

00:32:49.652 --> 00:33:13.041
My sisters got angry at me, which we were all angry at the time, obviously but I felt like I lost everything between, you know, covid, and not being at church, between my mom gone my dad really wasn't there, you know as far as being able to talk to my sisters, not being upset with me, and we had moved.

00:33:13.041 --> 00:33:17.717
We had moved too, so I had moved away from friends and people that I knew.

00:33:17.717 --> 00:33:19.320
I thought I lost everything.

00:33:19.400 --> 00:33:23.075
I thought why, why, god, why, why am I going through this?

00:33:23.075 --> 00:33:24.359
Why is this happening?

00:33:24.359 --> 00:33:26.898
There is no, I can't handle this.

00:33:26.898 --> 00:33:33.910
I just can't handle this, and I've never said this before.

00:33:33.910 --> 00:33:51.322
I'm not sure I feel comfortable saying this, but I was seriously there where I thought about running off the road, I thought about taking my own life, I didn't and I sat on the side of the road crying, shaking, and I had two people pull over why, I don't know.

00:33:51.442 --> 00:33:55.153
God was putting them in my life and they talked to me.

00:33:55.153 --> 00:34:03.481
They were very kind, very listening, and I just went home and I'm like, okay, god, I give it all to you.

00:34:03.481 --> 00:34:04.043
I'm done.

00:34:04.043 --> 00:34:06.586
I can't Tell me where to go.

00:34:06.586 --> 00:34:07.767
It's up to you.

00:34:07.767 --> 00:34:09.195
You have to control this.

00:34:09.195 --> 00:34:10.619
I can't, I can't do this anymore.

00:34:10.619 --> 00:34:12.913
And that was it.

00:34:12.913 --> 00:34:14.117
That was the change.

00:34:14.117 --> 00:34:23.469
It wasn't until I surrendered completely to him and said I can't do this, you do this, I can't do it, that.

00:34:23.469 --> 00:34:29.543
I that God just immediately, and I felt so much better immediately.

00:34:29.543 --> 00:34:30.773
That was like a relief.

00:34:30.773 --> 00:34:34.302
You know that that weight was taken off my shoulder Right.

00:34:34.302 --> 00:34:35.867
That weight was taken off my shoulder.

00:34:39.141 --> 00:34:39.282
Right.

00:34:39.282 --> 00:34:48.262
Can you share with us a memorable story from your own life that illustrates the power of faith and trust in God?

00:34:50.271 --> 00:34:53.400
Oh, a rememberable story.

00:34:53.400 --> 00:35:00.800
You know there's a lot of stories, obviously, that were very impactful in my life.

00:35:00.800 --> 00:35:07.841
You know I'm going to have to use something that happened more recently than not.

00:35:07.841 --> 00:35:20.705
So one of the things that made me just trust in God is that I was in there with my dad after my mom had passed that night and my mom had.

00:35:21.009 --> 00:35:31.450
I don't know if you've ever seen or heard of those like little dolls that are like cats and dogs and they're sitting on a little mat and they're breathing, you know, and they're purring and whatever.

00:35:31.450 --> 00:35:33.955
They're just, you know, mechanical things, whatever.

00:35:33.955 --> 00:35:38.512
So this little cat hadn't purred in years.

00:35:38.512 --> 00:35:39.857
My mom could not get it to purr.

00:35:39.857 --> 00:35:42.954
It basically was done, you know, mechanically, was done.

00:35:42.954 --> 00:35:50.013
That night I heard this sound and my dad said I said what is that sound?

00:35:50.013 --> 00:35:52.598
And he goes it's the cat, it's purring.

00:35:52.598 --> 00:35:55.023
I'm like what are you talking about?

00:35:55.023 --> 00:35:56.814
It hadn't purred in years.

00:35:56.814 --> 00:36:08.594
You, you know, and I felt like that was, you know, mom doing that, my mom doing that for me, and she did it for my sisters too, because it stopped by the next morning.

00:36:08.594 --> 00:36:11.441
It wasn't, you know, purring anymore, wasn't moving anymore.

00:36:11.441 --> 00:36:14.535
That next night it did the same thing for my sisters.

00:36:14.535 --> 00:36:16.641
They were there and it started purring.

00:36:16.641 --> 00:36:20.570
The same thing for my sisters.

00:36:20.570 --> 00:36:22.975
They were there and it started purring and it hasn't purred or breathed since then.

00:36:22.996 --> 00:36:27.272
So you know, it's just these awesome things that happen in your life and it doesn't have to be that big.

00:36:27.272 --> 00:36:35.078
It can be something small, like you just look up and you see the beauty of the glistening of the icicles on the tree, or you.

00:36:35.078 --> 00:36:38.746
You know that you're looking like I love trees.

00:36:38.746 --> 00:36:42.154
I'm looking at, I'm like, oh, it's a beautiful big tree.

00:36:42.154 --> 00:36:45.340
You know, you know God made these things.

00:36:45.340 --> 00:36:57.797
And just those those little things, those little hints of hey, I'm here, you know, and I love you, and I'm here, and you don't see him unless you, you believe in him.

00:36:57.797 --> 00:37:01.262
And then all of a sudden it's like all these lovely things just happen to you.

00:37:02.124 --> 00:37:11.989
Yeah, well, as we get ready to end, I always ask my guests to give my listeners an encouraging word about you.

00:37:11.989 --> 00:37:16.800
Know, whatever you feel led to here, mm-hm.

00:37:18.423 --> 00:37:47.569
Yeah, I guess you know my encouragement is for specifically, you know, for those that are either questioning their belief or are not believers, is to make sure you do the research, because when you do that research and you see both sides, that's when you learn, that's when you grow, that's when you start questioning more and can find out more about God and faith and love, and that's what God is.

00:37:47.569 --> 00:37:55.531
God is love and I just encourage you to, if you have questions, continue to follow those questions and find answers.

00:37:55.531 --> 00:38:03.975
Talk to somebody, go to your, go to your church pastor and just talk to somebody about it and keep searching and praying.

00:38:03.975 --> 00:38:06.361
You'll get your answer, amen.

00:38:06.809 --> 00:38:09.659
Thank you so much for coming on the show today.

00:38:09.659 --> 00:38:11.777
