What if everything you thought you wanted left you feeling empty inside? Tyler Cerny, an international keynote speaker who travels globally teaching students, athletes, and professionals how to align with their God-given purpose, shares exactly this experience on today's profound episode.

Tyler opens up about reaching what many would consider the pinnacle of success - financial prosperity, an enviable lifestyle, and great relationships - only to wake up one morning feeling completely hollow. This pivotal moment led him to a transformative realization: the Lord was in his life, but only when convenient. The difference between being interested versus committed to spiritual growth became the turning point that changed everything.

Through powerful biblical insights, particularly John 15's metaphor of the vine and branches, Tyler explains how human effort combines with divine assistance in a beautiful partnership. Some days we show up at 70% capacity and God meets us the remaining 30%, while other times we barely manage 0.01% and need God to carry us 99.99% of the way. This balanced perspective acknowledges both our responsibility and limitations while offering tremendous hope.

The conversation explores practical approaches to integrating faith into business, finding your unique purpose, and winning each day with intentional habits. Tyler breaks down the concept of purpose etymologically and practically, providing a framework anyone can apply: identify who you're serving, what problems you're solving, and how you're uniquely equipped to solve them. His insights on sacrifice, discipline, and the fruits of spiritual growth offer both challenge and encouragement for listeners at any stage of their journey.

Whether you're questioning your path, seeking deeper meaning in your work, or simply curious about merging faith with everyday life, this conversation will inspire you to look beyond worldly measures of success toward something infinitely more fulfilling. 00:00:00.521 --> 00:00:06.634
Hello everyone, thank you again for joining me on another episode of the DorsiRoss show.

00:00:06.634 --> 00:00:09.586
Today we have a special guest with us.

00:00:09.586 --> 00:00:11.492
His name is Tyler Cerny.

00:00:11.492 --> 00:00:33.487
He is an international and award-winning keynote speaker who travels around the world teaching students, athletes and young professionals and business owners how to align themselves with the life, with their lives and God's giving purpose.

00:00:33.487 --> 00:00:37.621
Tyler, thank you so much for coming on the show today.

00:00:38.505 --> 00:00:39.831
Amen, absolutely, george.

00:00:39.831 --> 00:00:41.356
It's always a pleasure to see you, man.

00:00:41.356 --> 00:00:44.347
You inspire me every day Grateful to be here and grateful to connect with you.

00:00:44.747 --> 00:00:45.451
Thank you, Tyler.

00:00:45.451 --> 00:01:00.954
I greatly appreciate that Open up with a few lighthearted questions, and the first one is what has been going on in your life recently that you expected and didn't expect.

00:01:02.740 --> 00:01:03.886
That's a great question, man.

00:01:03.886 --> 00:01:07.429
We'll keep it light and deep at the same time.

00:01:07.429 --> 00:01:10.489
Man, what's going on in something that I've expected and didn't expect?

00:01:10.489 --> 00:01:22.694
One of the things that I was thinking about and praying to the Lord before I got on this call, Dorsey, is how much sacrifice is needed to be a Christian right.

00:01:22.694 --> 00:01:24.822
Because, if you think about it, a lot of people when you first start in your spiritual walk, you're like, hey, I want to be a Christian right.

00:01:24.822 --> 00:01:36.135
Because, if you think about it, a lot of people when you first start in your spiritual walk, you're like, hey, I want to be saved, I want to go to heaven, I don't want to go to, you know, it's like all the consequences we want to avoid, right, and it's a very you know what's in it for us.

00:01:36.135 --> 00:01:44.852
And it's like, hey, we have this amazing partner with the Lord, point where it's like, okay, we want to follow Christ, we want to be a devout Christian.

00:01:44.852 --> 00:01:52.581
Well, what does that take?

00:01:52.581 --> 00:01:55.305
And that takes a lot on our sacrifice, discipline and obedience that we typically, you know, kind of overlook.

00:01:55.305 --> 00:01:59.713
And there's this thing that I saw and I kind of made it my own.

00:01:59.900 --> 00:02:04.882
But, you know, whenever we restart something, right, whether it's reading a book, whether it's reading the Bible.

00:02:04.882 --> 00:02:07.090
You know, there's certain passages that I remember.

00:02:07.090 --> 00:02:12.612
I'm on the seventh or eighth time through the Bible and I remember reading certain passages and they just go right over my head.

00:02:12.612 --> 00:02:23.020
I don't really understand them, but whether you start lifting weights, start reading a book, start doing something new, you have this delusional optimism for the future.

00:02:23.020 --> 00:02:25.729
You're like, hey, this is going to be the greatest and best thing ever.

00:02:25.729 --> 00:02:38.179
And then, once you start to get into it, then you become like an uninformed pessimist, where you just kind of like, man, this is a lot harder than I thought, I don't really know what I got myself into.

00:02:38.179 --> 00:02:52.561
And then, if we continue the journey, we're then going to become informed pessimists where it's like, okay, I know this journey is hard, I know what I need to do every single day to stay consistent to achieve the outcome.

00:02:52.561 --> 00:02:57.552
And in the final stage, if we don't give up and quit, we become informed optimists.

00:02:57.552 --> 00:03:03.663
It's like, hey, we finally start bearing fruits in our lives and we start getting the results that we started our initial journey on.

00:03:03.663 --> 00:03:09.008
Whatever that looks like our fitness journey, our spiritual journey, our business journey, whatever that looks like.

00:03:09.008 --> 00:03:15.159
It's like how many people have given up right before they see the breakthrough.

00:03:15.159 --> 00:03:16.625
And so you know.

00:03:16.806 --> 00:03:31.860
Your question is you know what's something that I expected but also didn't expect is I expected the Lord to move this past year and moving forward, but I didn't expect the amount of sacrifice and obedience and discipline that is needed to be a Christian every single day.

00:03:31.860 --> 00:03:40.584
And I think that's the power of faith and Christianity, and believing is that we don't have to do it all ourselves.

00:03:40.584 --> 00:03:44.312
And I always tell people this there's some days we'll all show up 70%.

00:03:44.312 --> 00:03:46.401
The Lord's going to meet me 30%.

00:03:46.401 --> 00:03:53.201
There's some days we'll all show up 99.99999%, but the Lord's still going to have to meet me.

00:03:53.262 --> 00:04:00.685
The final way, and there's some points that I'll show up 0.01% and the Lord's going to have to meet me 99.99999%.

00:04:00.685 --> 00:04:07.241
But either way we look at it, we're not whole, unless the Lord's part of our life, and so it's just a.

00:04:07.241 --> 00:04:08.804
You know to answer your question.

00:04:08.804 --> 00:04:34.040
To close the thought out, it's just the sacrifice, obedience and discipline is something that's needed for our growth, but it's something that takes time and only continues to get better, as you kind of put yourselves in these situations of discomfort and these situations of suffering, Because on the other side is salvation and on the other side, is everything that we want to achieve in our life.

00:04:34.540 --> 00:04:42.750
Yeah, and as Christians to go off of what you said there as Christians wouldn't everything be at that 100%.

00:04:42.750 --> 00:04:47.675
You know life, mentality, you know expectations, whatever.

00:04:47.675 --> 00:04:56.834
But like you said, even if we're at that 99%, god will help us to get to that 100%, because he's all we need anyway.

00:04:58.600 --> 00:05:03.822
Yeah, and the other thing with that is, if we try to do it all ourselves and we don't include the Lord, we're always going to have a little.

00:05:03.822 --> 00:05:12.572
We're always going to have a piece that's missing in our life Absolutely, and especially when you start seeing results in your life, in any area of life.

00:05:12.572 --> 00:05:17.557
It's like we as human beings, and something that I always like to remind myself.

00:05:17.557 --> 00:05:20.088
One of my favorite verses is Luke 14, verse 11.

00:05:20.088 --> 00:05:24.291
It says those who humble themselves will be exalted and those who exalt themselves will be humbled.

00:05:24.291 --> 00:05:26.553
And it says those who humble themselves will be exalted and those who exalt themselves will be humbled.

00:05:26.553 --> 00:05:26.853
And it's just.

00:05:26.874 --> 00:05:38.353
I still get chills sharing that verse because I remember when I first read that verse it smacked me up inside the head and it's like, wow, the closer we can get the less of us, the more we can have the Lord in our life.

00:05:38.353 --> 00:06:01.074
And that's something that is always a constant reminder I like to share in my life and other people is that you don't need to do it on your own and the results that you have in your life they're not because of you, they're partly because of you, but we always have to remember and stay humble to whose we are and who helped us to achieve the things that we have achieved in our life.

00:06:02.821 --> 00:06:08.142
If you had to eat one food a day for the rest of your life, what would it be?

00:06:09.607 --> 00:06:11.713
Well, that's a great question, because I love food.

00:06:11.713 --> 00:06:16.625
I'm here in Southern Texas and I want to just only have this.

00:06:16.625 --> 00:06:24.208
But there's this grocery store called H-E-B and they have these amazing butter flour tortillas.

00:06:24.208 --> 00:06:25.531
Man, I don't know what they do.

00:06:25.531 --> 00:06:27.223
They're like freshly made, they're amazing.

00:06:27.223 --> 00:06:32.785
But I like steak, so I have some sort of steak with these tortillas.

00:06:32.785 --> 00:06:38.264
I could probably eat that every day and that's pretty much what I do eat every day.

00:06:38.264 --> 00:06:40.728
I also like to just eat something a lot of.

00:06:40.728 --> 00:06:42.673
I like to eat a watermelon.

00:06:42.673 --> 00:06:43.860
I can eat a lot of watermelon.

00:06:43.860 --> 00:06:48.550
So watermelon or steaks, and butter flour tort flower tortilla is one of the two.

00:06:48.550 --> 00:07:02.860
So that's probably what I'd go with, but I'll probably go with steak because there's more protein and probably more sustainable okay, being from texas, I thought you would at least have said you know some type of barbecue yeah, no, that's true, I like brisket too.

00:07:02.920 --> 00:07:04.543
There's nothing wrong with some good brisket.

00:07:04.543 --> 00:07:07.706
I'm originally from Cleveland, but I live here in Texas now.

00:07:07.706 --> 00:07:10.029
But yeah, man, that's a good question.

00:07:10.029 --> 00:07:13.333
Man, I like all types of food, but barbecue is definitely up there too.

00:07:13.333 --> 00:07:16.137
Barbecue, sushi, steak, all that stuff.

00:07:17.560 --> 00:07:27.855
Have there been a time when you went from, a time in your life when you went from laughing to dealing with a difficult challenge?

00:07:29.800 --> 00:07:30.923
Wow, that's a good question.

00:07:30.923 --> 00:07:37.204
Yeah, I mean, one of the things I always share with people is the moment.

00:07:37.204 --> 00:07:44.446
So to give you some backstories, so essentially I was an athlete, hence the football behind me.

00:07:44.446 --> 00:07:48.514
I played college football, got a chance to play basketball overseas in Asia sports for my whole life.

00:07:48.980 --> 00:07:50.444
As I got out of that, I consulted.

00:07:50.444 --> 00:07:52.701
I got into consulting One of my mentors.

00:07:52.701 --> 00:07:56.291
He taught me he grew and scaled Salesforce up to 100 million.

00:07:56.291 --> 00:08:00.011
He taught me outbound sales strategies and how he built Salesforce to that level.

00:08:00.011 --> 00:08:07.074
And so as a consultant, what I did was I reached out to organizations and companies and said, hey, I would love to help you grow and scale your company.

00:08:07.074 --> 00:08:09.983
And they would say, how much do you charge?

00:08:09.983 --> 00:08:12.891
And I said, hey, I don't charge anything, but I just charge a percentage of each sale that we make.

00:08:12.891 --> 00:08:48.464
So with that it was a very low risk to enter, low barrier to enter, and with that our portfolio grew no-transcript relationships with beautiful women all the time.

00:08:48.464 --> 00:08:51.734
That was honestly my goal and when I achieved that, I ended up moving to Tampa and I got all that.

00:08:51.754 --> 00:09:02.455
I lived that lifestyle and I just remember one day waking up and I didn't want to wake up that morning I had this hit in my stomach.

00:09:02.455 --> 00:09:17.125
I'm one of those guys that always had the motivation, always had the drive to work hard and be up early and then, all of a sudden, just this desire and drive just wasn't there, no more.

00:09:17.125 --> 00:09:28.366
One of the reasons being is that the Lord was in my life, but it was whenever it was convenient for me, and that's something that I always tell people.

00:09:28.366 --> 00:09:31.044
I always ask people when I go to a keynote.

00:09:31.044 --> 00:09:35.274
I said what's the difference between someone who's committed or interested?

00:09:35.274 --> 00:09:37.626
Do you know the difference, dorsey?

00:09:39.340 --> 00:09:48.150
I would say, interested is once in a while, you know, once in a while you're interested in that situation or in that topic, or in that.

00:09:48.150 --> 00:09:52.956
You know passion that you have, but committed to living it each day.

00:09:54.200 --> 00:09:55.261
Right, absolutely, man.

00:09:55.261 --> 00:09:59.506
You know one of the ways I say this interested is you do whatever is convenient.

00:09:59.506 --> 00:10:01.649
Committed is you do whatever it takes right.

00:10:01.649 --> 00:10:12.544
So it's like I wasn't committed to this Christianity walk, right, and obviously we all fall short of the glory of God, but I was doing whatever was convenient for me and I remember this.

00:10:12.544 --> 00:10:14.110
What did change my life?

00:10:14.110 --> 00:10:16.788
And I was like man, what is missing.

00:10:16.788 --> 00:10:18.647
You know, this is everything I thought I wanted.

00:10:18.647 --> 00:10:30.590
You know, I had a financial, a successful business, had a great lifestyle, was in great shape, great relationships, all these things, but it was like I was still missing something and it was the Lord.

00:10:30.590 --> 00:10:34.768
It was the last piece and one of the things that changed my life.

00:10:34.847 --> 00:10:41.288
And I've heard this chapter before and I heard this verse before, but I wanted to read it, but it was John 15.

00:10:41.288 --> 00:10:46.121
You know, jesus is the true vine, I am the true grapevine and my father is the gardener.

00:10:46.121 --> 00:10:48.633
He cuts off every branch of mine that doesn't produce fruit.

00:10:48.633 --> 00:10:53.206
He prunes the branches that do bear fruit so that they will produce even more.

00:10:53.206 --> 00:10:56.861
You have already been pruned and purified by the message I've given you.

00:10:56.861 --> 00:11:04.726
Remain in me and I will remain in you, for a branch cannot produce fruit if it is severed from the vine, and you cannot be fruitful unless you remain in me.

00:11:04.726 --> 00:11:06.971
Yes, I am the vine, you are the branches.

00:11:06.971 --> 00:11:11.803
Those who remain in me and I and them will produce much fruit, for apart from me, you can do nothing.

00:11:11.803 --> 00:11:27.193
And that really hit home for me and that again, that was one of those verses that just smacked me up inside the head and I don't know if you had any of those specific verses in your spiritual walk to dor Dorsey, that just you read it and it just gave you this whole new perspective.

00:11:27.193 --> 00:11:31.250
But it was one of those things where it's like here's the vine, here are the branches.

00:11:31.250 --> 00:11:47.253
If you think about the role of branches to a tree, if you think about it, all the branches have to do is stay connected to the soil, because the moment they break off, they essentially become useless and they start dying.

00:11:47.253 --> 00:11:50.408
But if they stay connected, what's going to start to happen?

00:11:50.408 --> 00:11:52.928
They're going to start to flourish and start to produce results.

00:11:54.221 --> 00:11:57.047
I was like man at that point in my life.

00:11:57.047 --> 00:12:00.494
I was one of those guys that had a gold card.

00:12:00.494 --> 00:12:01.908
I was in the personal development.

00:12:01.908 --> 00:12:03.105
I write my goals down every day.

00:12:03.105 --> 00:12:10.275
I say with affirmations, all these different things, and I'm like, lord, I hear you, but we got work to do.

00:12:10.275 --> 00:12:11.480
I have a plan right here.

00:12:11.480 --> 00:12:13.264
I have something that I need to focus on.

00:12:15.028 --> 00:12:19.366
What radically shifted was that Luke 14, verse 11, those who humble themselves will be exalted.

00:12:19.366 --> 00:12:20.921
Those who exalt themselves will be humbled.

00:12:20.921 --> 00:12:27.782
I quickly got humbled and I realized that, lord, I don't want my plan, I want your plan.

00:12:27.782 --> 00:12:33.072
So what are you blessing around me and how can I play a small part in that?

00:12:33.072 --> 00:12:48.822
The thing that you're working around and that was probably, you know, close to four or five years ago now where that's the, that shift I made, really made it in my life, and now it's that verse of the true testament.

00:12:48.962 --> 00:13:03.447
Like every area of my life, I start to bear fruit, and one of the fruits that I tell people is peace, peace, joy, happiness, fulfillment, and it's not things of this world, it's things that only can be given through the fruits of the Holy Spirit.

00:13:03.447 --> 00:13:18.085
And so that was something where I was happy, got disappointed, and then the Lord what's cool, whoever's listening to this, the Lord's going to meet you with where you're at, whatever you did, whatever you did in the past or whatever lifestyle you're currently living.

00:13:18.085 --> 00:13:34.952
The Lord can meet you with where you're at, and he can turn a negative situation into a positive situation, and so that's going to be a situation that I was happy and then got disappointed because I quickly realized that my plan was inferior to the Lord's plan.

00:13:36.461 --> 00:13:43.409
What was it that made you say, hey, I need to be more committed to Christ.

00:13:43.409 --> 00:13:45.307
Was it a sermon you heard?

00:13:45.307 --> 00:13:49.807
Was it something you read, or was it just God speaking to you?

00:13:51.159 --> 00:13:52.346
Yeah, I mean, that's a great question.

00:13:52.346 --> 00:13:53.865
I think it was a mixture of things, right.

00:13:53.865 --> 00:13:59.789
I think it was a mixture of frustration and not being satisfied and just having this feeling in my gut.

00:13:59.789 --> 00:14:03.523
It's like I don't know what needs to happen, but something needs to change right.

00:14:03.523 --> 00:14:14.226
And then another thing is just surrounding myself with like-minded individuals, right, like surrounding myself with godly individuals, because the people that were on I was.

00:14:14.226 --> 00:14:20.615
You know, I wouldn't say they were bad people, but they were in a similar boat.

00:14:20.615 --> 00:14:28.020
They were just lukewarm Christians, right and and again, we, we all fall short of the glory of God.

00:14:28.020 --> 00:14:49.028
We all have different seasons in our life, but in that season of my life I needed to be with Christians who were on fire for the Lord, because through them I got to see and got to build my faith up around strong individuals, people within the church, within the community, and then radically changing and shifting everything.

00:14:49.067 --> 00:14:55.740
Man, it's like you know the social media that you're on, the music, that you're listening to everything.

00:14:55.740 --> 00:15:04.849
Is it adding and building and creating life into my life or is it, you know, taking it away and making me feel less?

00:15:04.849 --> 00:15:06.774
Is it making me feel anxious?

00:15:06.774 --> 00:15:17.453
Is it leaving me with less energy, like really take inventory of what I was doing and is it actually enhancing my life?

00:15:17.453 --> 00:15:23.942
And you know, a mixture of all those different things came to a point where it's like, hey, I need to make a change.

00:15:24.001 --> 00:15:28.152
And, being around it, there's a movie movie I don't know if you got a chance to see it.

00:15:28.152 --> 00:15:29.383
If you haven't, definitely check it out.

00:15:29.383 --> 00:15:31.347
It's called the forge on netflix.

00:15:31.347 --> 00:15:37.163
Yeah, check it out and anyone that's watching it's a great movie.

00:15:37.163 --> 00:15:39.048
It's this guy or it's this kid.

00:15:39.048 --> 00:15:40.572
He's like, I think, 16 year old kid.

00:15:40.572 --> 00:15:42.344
He's got a lot of issues.

00:15:42.344 --> 00:15:50.557
He's, you know, he know he's just, he's just a teenager and this guy takes him under his wing and he, he basically they call it the forge.

00:15:50.557 --> 00:15:56.422
It's because he has a group of men, christian men that he basically pours into and speaks the word of Christ over.

00:15:56.422 --> 00:16:08.653
His life gets radically changed in the movie and I don't want to give away anything, but that's a high level of what's possible when you can surround yourself with people that are on fire for the Lord.

00:16:08.653 --> 00:16:19.490
That's what's great with social media and the Internet now is that if I don't have anyone in proximity, I mean most If you live in the US, there's usually a Christian church you can get plugged into.

00:16:19.490 --> 00:16:40.653
But even if you're not close to anything or whatever your situation at home, you can put on a podcast, you could put on a video, you could put on a church service with someone that's filled with the Holy Spirit, because the Lord can work in a lot of different ways and the more you can surround yourself with that, your life's going to change.

00:16:40.759 --> 00:16:45.789
And the last thing, with that abiding in the word of Christ every single day that absolutely changed my life.

00:16:45.789 --> 00:16:48.053
When I read that verse, I was like you know what?

00:16:48.053 --> 00:16:52.831
I'm going to read the Bible every day and there's certain days where I may read one verse.

00:16:52.831 --> 00:17:00.321
It may be a busy day, but ever since that moment, I've never missed a day, like I've always been in the word of Christ.

00:17:00.321 --> 00:17:07.664
Because one of the things that I heard people say is you know, just listen to the Lord, you know hear, you know just just.

00:17:07.664 --> 00:17:09.310
You know communicate.

00:17:09.310 --> 00:17:13.544
And I always I remember hearing that and I said what does that even mean?

00:17:13.544 --> 00:17:18.162
What does that even mean to hear from the Lord Like is I'm supposed to be talked to?

00:17:18.162 --> 00:17:21.428
Well, you know, the Bible talks about it.

00:17:21.428 --> 00:17:22.288
In John one.

00:17:22.288 --> 00:17:34.001
It says the Lord, the word is God, the word was with God and the word is breathed by God, you know.

00:17:34.001 --> 00:17:34.282
So it's like.

00:17:34.282 --> 00:17:43.963
Those are the words that the Lord used vessels to share in the Bible, and so that is a living, breathing word that I can pour into my life every single day.

00:17:44.924 --> 00:17:54.155
Because once you start doing that, what starts to happen is you know, everyone knows, is pretty familiar with the Lord's Prayer.

00:17:54.155 --> 00:17:56.968
You know, our Father, who art in heaven.

00:17:56.968 --> 00:17:57.710
Hallowed be thy name.

00:17:57.710 --> 00:17:58.642
Thy kingdom come.

00:17:58.642 --> 00:18:01.170
Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.

00:18:01.170 --> 00:18:11.586
And that's the prayer is that when the Lord made Garden of Eden, there was so much abundance, there was gold, they had everything you needed.

00:18:12.481 --> 00:18:13.486
And what does the enemy do?

00:18:13.486 --> 00:18:22.464
He comes into the Garden of Eden and he deceives Adam and Eve and say, hey, don't you want this, don't you want to eat from this fruit of this tree over here?

00:18:22.464 --> 00:18:24.646
You guys don't have everything.

00:18:24.646 --> 00:18:28.369
You guys are missing out on this, and that's another thing.

00:18:28.369 --> 00:18:29.665
It's like what are we focusing?

00:18:29.665 --> 00:18:31.948
Are we focusing on what we're quote, unquote?

00:18:31.948 --> 00:18:40.453
Because if we're within the word of Christ and we're fully on board and we submit ourselves to the Lord, the Lord is everything.

00:18:40.453 --> 00:18:53.373
So we don't lack anything and the Lord operates with absolute excellence and abundance and prosperity, and so if we can align ourselves with that, then we're going to start to bear fruit.

00:18:54.099 --> 00:18:55.903
And that's something I did.

00:18:55.903 --> 00:18:56.806
I took inventory.

00:18:56.806 --> 00:19:04.756
I said, lord, if that's true, if you're saying this, it even goes later on and says where is it?

00:19:04.756 --> 00:19:09.136
I've told you these things that you'll be filled with joy.

00:19:09.136 --> 00:19:10.039
This is my commandment.

00:19:10.039 --> 00:19:13.974
And then he goes in to love each other, I have no longer.

00:19:15.250 --> 00:19:20.576
He basically says later on, it says whatever's your heart desire, I will grant you Right.

00:19:20.576 --> 00:19:27.190
And it's not because he's giving it to us because we want it, Like it's a genie in a bottle.

00:19:27.190 --> 00:19:34.213
It's because once our hearts desires start to become what the Lord desires for our life, then that's what starts to happen.

00:19:34.213 --> 00:19:41.741
Right, because it's written, and that's what I would say is abide in the word of Christ, start reading the Bible.

00:19:41.741 --> 00:19:44.117
That's going to be your best person of all in the book.

00:19:44.117 --> 00:20:09.797
If anything's going wrong, you're struggling financially, you're lacking happiness, you're struggling in your relationships, and I know I'm preaching to the choir here too, dorsey, but that really changed my life because when that got into my life, things that weren't serving me started to flee from my life, and I'm forever grateful, and you know that's why I'm even here on this podcast is to spread the good news too, man, and you know that's why I'm even here on this podcast is to spread the good news too.

00:20:09.817 --> 00:20:10.037
man, amen.

00:20:10.037 --> 00:20:12.378
Now you said that you played football in college.

00:20:12.378 --> 00:20:18.665
Where did you go to college and play football and how did you get into what you do today?

00:20:18.665 --> 00:20:19.567
Did you study it?

00:20:21.683 --> 00:20:21.884
Did you?

00:20:21.884 --> 00:20:23.875
Yeah, that's a great question.

00:20:23.875 --> 00:20:27.557
So yeah, in Cleveland, man, there's two things you play sports or you get in trouble.

00:20:27.557 --> 00:20:30.295
I did a little bit of both, but the sports kept me on track.

00:20:30.295 --> 00:20:36.678
And one of the things, basketball was always my passion, but football I was the best at just due to my size and stuff like that.

00:20:36.678 --> 00:20:39.932
And so there's a school called John Carroll University.

00:20:39.932 --> 00:20:42.556
It's a division three.

00:20:42.556 --> 00:20:48.644
It's funny because a lot of my coaches ended up making it to the NFL coaching staff.

00:20:48.644 --> 00:20:55.736
So I don't know if you saw, but the Houston Texans just recently, there's a player that shoved this coach.

00:20:55.736 --> 00:21:05.819
I don't know, it was on the headlines, but that coach that he shoved was actually one of my coaches and he was just super intense and I could see how emotions flare up during the game.

00:21:05.819 --> 00:21:08.935
But you know, football was.

00:21:08.935 --> 00:21:15.240
You know, sports really gave me a foundation because I was held accountable as a group of like-minded individuals.

00:21:15.240 --> 00:21:19.958
We had a strict schedule, so I was held to a schedule.

00:21:19.958 --> 00:21:22.231
I knew exactly what I needed to do In college.

00:21:22.291 --> 00:21:23.174
It's a full-time job.

00:21:23.174 --> 00:21:24.159
You got to watch film.

00:21:24.159 --> 00:21:26.176
You watch film for like an hour and a half.

00:21:26.176 --> 00:21:29.932
You go to class for three or four hours, you live for an hour and a half to two hours.

00:21:29.932 --> 00:21:31.574
You go to practice for three to four hours.

00:21:31.574 --> 00:21:34.476
Next thing, you know, you know you got to go to sleep.

00:21:34.476 --> 00:21:35.817
So it's like you know.

00:21:36.617 --> 00:21:38.538
My coach said this you can only have three things.

00:21:38.538 --> 00:21:42.201
You have social life, football and your academics.

00:21:42.201 --> 00:21:43.542
And so that's what he said.

00:21:43.542 --> 00:21:44.723
You can only have two out of the three.

00:21:44.723 --> 00:21:48.987
If you want to do good in school and be good at football, that's possible, but your social life is going to slap.

00:21:48.987 --> 00:21:53.921
If you're going to have a good social life, you're going to be good at football, but your academics are going to slap.

00:21:53.921 --> 00:21:57.599
If you want to have a good social life and good academics, then your football is going to slap.

00:21:57.599 --> 00:22:01.473
That's when you really got to get clear For me.

00:22:01.473 --> 00:22:05.439
I got to a point in my life where I knew I wasn't going to the NFL.

00:22:05.439 --> 00:22:07.082
I had to walk away from the game.

00:22:07.241 --> 00:22:17.836
Eventually I decided to double down on business and I always knew I wanted to go into business because I didn't want to be limited to what I could earn and what I could provide for my family.

00:22:17.836 --> 00:22:22.501
So I got into business because I love numbers and I love business.

00:22:22.501 --> 00:22:24.759
I was thinking about going into accounting.

00:22:24.759 --> 00:22:30.582
I saw a set and I was very involved in the community and on campus.

00:22:30.582 --> 00:22:35.220
I did a lot of things, but what I did was I interviewed accountants.

00:22:35.220 --> 00:22:38.078
I was like, hey, how do you like the profession?

00:22:38.078 --> 00:22:40.652
You know, is this enjoyable, like you know?

00:22:40.652 --> 00:22:42.157
Tell me about it, I would love to learn more.

00:22:43.490 --> 00:22:50.844
Almost every accountant that I interacted with they were either excited to leave the profession and now they're opening up their own business.

00:22:50.844 --> 00:22:55.122
They're like, hey, it was great, but now I have the opportunity to start my own business.

00:22:55.122 --> 00:22:58.199
I knew this one guy who bought like a SoulCycle.

00:22:58.199 --> 00:23:03.301
But then the other accountants I saw they weren't really happy doing the accounting.

00:23:03.301 --> 00:23:06.431
They said it was good, hey, but they really weren't happy.

00:23:06.431 --> 00:23:12.834
And if you look it up, accountants are actually one of the highest suicide rates tied to a profession.

00:23:12.834 --> 00:23:15.954
And so I was like man, that doesn't sound good.

00:23:15.954 --> 00:23:18.016
And so then I looked into the finance.

00:23:18.016 --> 00:23:22.157
You know, work on Wall Street, investment banking.

00:23:22.157 --> 00:23:25.759
I was like I like numbers, that's what I want to do.

00:23:25.759 --> 00:23:40.705
But I just remember going into that and a lot of individuals were, you know, relying on substances like drugs and alcohol and making good money, but it really wasn't a healthy lifestyle.

00:23:40.705 --> 00:23:43.507
Again, I was like, man, I don't think that's the path for me either.

00:23:43.507 --> 00:23:45.627
So I was like, let me just go with marketing.

00:23:45.627 --> 00:23:58.321
Marketing is the easy business degree and that's my philosophy around it If I can help people market and sell and promote, then I can always be valuable within the marketplace as well.

00:23:58.342 --> 00:23:59.586
I got a degree in marketing.

00:23:59.586 --> 00:24:02.172
I took a different path than most entrepreneurs.

00:24:02.172 --> 00:24:10.625
I played out the full four years and I got to a point I did everything right, got good grades, got a good job.

00:24:10.625 --> 00:24:12.736
I got positions.

00:24:12.736 --> 00:24:23.263
I was working in positions when I was in college, so I started early, but then I realized I wasn't able to provide for my family and for myself at the lifestyle that I wanted.

00:24:23.789 --> 00:24:26.038
So I ran into my mentor.

00:24:26.109 --> 00:24:47.576
I started picking up books, I started going to live events and, like I mentioned before my mentor, he helped grow and scale Salesforce up to a hundred millions of sales system and so I learned from people that actually got out and done it and then from there just implemented with companies all around the world and I've been consulting now for the last 12 years specifically around that.

00:24:47.917 --> 00:24:52.644
That then led to me working with the largest personal development company in the world.

00:24:52.644 --> 00:24:56.921
What they did was they brought me in to help them grow their sales and marketing.

00:24:56.921 --> 00:25:15.219
They partnered with people like Tony Robbins, grant Cardone, gary Vee, damien, john, robert Kiyosaki all these guys and even they did stuff with Donald Trump before he was president, and that's when I really understood the business model of like hey businesses.

00:25:15.219 --> 00:25:41.198
They were making millions of dollars in a weekend, and if I can help produce sales, depending on how much profit they make, I can get paid in proportion to that, and so that was really a concept that I ran with and it's really served me for the last 12 years of just helping people grow their sales and marketing Developing systems, processes, developing their sales teams, developing marketing strategies.

00:25:41.198 --> 00:25:44.876
It's all around scaling and growing the company on the front end.

00:25:45.029 --> 00:25:47.633
Yeah, now I think I heard that you also.

00:25:47.633 --> 00:25:54.621
You know, along with Damon Gronk, you also worked with one of the other slots, mr Wonderful.

00:25:55.381 --> 00:25:56.321
Yeah, Kevin O'Leary.

00:25:56.321 --> 00:25:57.163
Yeah, he was great.

00:25:57.804 --> 00:25:58.605
How?

00:25:58.605 --> 00:26:00.027
What is it like working with him?

00:26:00.027 --> 00:26:03.509
Because on the show he seemed like you know he's in business.

00:26:03.509 --> 00:26:07.681
He wants to knock out everybody else to get that deal.

00:26:07.681 --> 00:26:08.805
How is it business?

00:26:08.805 --> 00:26:10.084
He wants to knock out everybody else to get that deal.

00:26:10.084 --> 00:26:11.717
He's actually as wonderful as he seems on TV.

00:26:13.550 --> 00:26:14.775
There's a Mr Wonderful.

00:26:14.775 --> 00:26:15.478
He's a funny guy.

00:26:15.478 --> 00:26:18.375
I'm a big Shark Tank.

00:26:18.375 --> 00:26:20.217
I watch a lot of Shark Tank.

00:26:20.217 --> 00:26:24.296
One of the quotes that he says a lot and you can even type and you can find episodes.

00:26:24.296 --> 00:26:25.935
He says multiple episodes.

00:26:27.070 --> 00:26:28.791
He's very direct with the contestants.

00:26:28.791 --> 00:26:32.280
Right, they come up and he's like he's like you know what you need to do.

00:26:32.280 --> 00:26:34.433
You take it behind the barn and shoot it.

00:26:34.433 --> 00:26:41.215
He's super intense when he says it right, you know, obviously it's a character, it's tv and so he has to make it interesting.

00:26:41.215 --> 00:26:46.176
But he genuinely says that because he genuinely cares about the individuals.

00:26:46.277 --> 00:26:50.757
And then, with the seriousness and the business acumen, it's his money that he's putting up.

00:26:50.757 --> 00:26:54.134
And if you look at his background, he was a finance guy.

00:26:54.134 --> 00:26:56.797
He was very conservative with his money.

00:26:56.797 --> 00:27:01.940
He was one of those guys that invested his money and it slowly compounded and it worked for him.

00:27:01.940 --> 00:27:14.348
And then at a point in his career later in his 50s or 60s or however old it was when he started getting on the shark tank, he then started investing in companies, which is different than a lot of the other sharks.

00:27:14.348 --> 00:27:17.178
Because if you look at Damon, he built FUBU.

00:27:17.178 --> 00:27:23.555
He was young, young guy selling t-shirts, built this global brand, received funds at an early age.

00:27:23.555 --> 00:27:25.499
Mark Cuban had this massive tech sale.

00:27:25.499 --> 00:27:29.471
Robert Herjavec also got into technology, had a massive sale.

00:27:29.471 --> 00:27:32.336
Lori, she's still young.

00:27:32.336 --> 00:27:37.772
She made her money through QVC, and then Barbara Corcoran.

00:27:37.772 --> 00:27:42.411
Barbara Corcoran has a similar journey, but she puts a lot of her investments in real estate.

00:27:42.730 --> 00:27:53.798
So he's one of those guys that's very conservative with his money and there's even reports in the news headlines that he's like if you get married, make sure you sign a prenup.

00:27:53.798 --> 00:27:58.936
He'll say certain things like that because that's just who he is.

00:27:58.936 --> 00:28:05.234
But he he says that because he genuinely cares about the contestant and generally wants to make money.

00:28:05.234 --> 00:28:15.411
But the main focus or kevin o'leary, why he's mr wonderful is that if you do have a good product or service and you can work with him, he does bring a lot of value.

00:28:16.053 --> 00:28:28.065
But he is a shark and he's going to make you an offer that obviously has his best interests in mind and this is his own money that he's worked decades for, so it's not going to be cheap to work with him, and that's most of the sharks as well.

00:28:28.065 --> 00:28:29.820
But, yeah, he's worked decades for, so it's not going to be cheap to work with him, and that's most of the sharks as well.

00:28:29.820 --> 00:28:31.423
But yeah, he's a good guy.

00:28:31.423 --> 00:28:35.813
I remember talking to him on stage and behind the stage and stuff like that.

00:28:35.813 --> 00:28:37.296
He's the solid guy.

00:28:37.296 --> 00:28:44.977
He's not as cutthroat as the tv show makes it seem like yeah, tell me, what does it mean to win the day?

00:28:46.880 --> 00:28:48.021
Yeah, that's a great question.

00:28:48.021 --> 00:28:55.542
Yeah, when you're asking me before with, like, you know, what did I do and what did I change to start building momentum in my life.

00:28:55.542 --> 00:28:59.057
Win the day and whatever that looks like.

00:28:59.057 --> 00:29:15.739
So that's a message I like to tell people win the moment, win the day, because if I can win the day, that's going to turn into winning the weeks, and if I can win weeks that's going to turn into winning months, and if I can win some months I can string together winning years and whatever that looks like for you.

00:29:15.739 --> 00:29:17.923
Maybe there's someone out there that's an alcoholic.

00:29:17.923 --> 00:29:20.195
For them, to win the day, they have to stop drinking alcohol.

00:29:20.195 --> 00:29:21.580
Maybe that's winning the day.

00:29:22.089 --> 00:29:28.784
For me it was making sure I get well, rest, like eight hours of sleep, making sure that I read the Bible.

00:29:28.784 --> 00:29:33.922
For me, keeping it simple was like that's winning the day for me when I first started.

00:29:33.922 --> 00:29:42.038
And obviously, as you grow and scale an organization and you do different things and you grow as an individual, you can start adding things to that.

00:29:42.038 --> 00:29:57.060
But winning the day is having two or three things that you do consistently, non-negotiables, that you can just commit to, even when you don't feel like it, not when it's convenient, but when I commit to it, that's winning the day.

00:29:57.060 --> 00:29:59.538
So then I had a little journal.

00:29:59.538 --> 00:30:09.701
I had a couple three things what I needed to do for the day get my eight hours of sleep, maybe get 30 minutes of steps in and then ultimately read the Bible.

00:30:09.701 --> 00:30:18.902
And if I did that, you classify what those things are and if you do that you check all three off, you win the day, and if you don't, you don't win the day.

00:30:18.902 --> 00:30:33.785
So it's like if you can win the day consistently, you're going to build momentum and then you're going to look back and be like wow, because that small muscle of discipline and consistency starts to compound in your favor.

00:30:33.785 --> 00:30:39.502
And then next thing you know, it's like you look back and you're like, man, how did I get to where I am?

00:30:39.502 --> 00:30:46.000
It's like, well, of all the work that I did every single day, and it's the stuff that you know.

00:30:46.040 --> 00:30:51.856
One of my favorite quotes is what you do in private is what people reward you in public.

00:30:51.856 --> 00:30:54.303
Is what you do in private right?

00:30:54.303 --> 00:31:00.431
So it's like the things that you do when no one's watching is what people recognize you publicly for right and so.

00:31:00.431 --> 00:31:05.212
But it's not like that when you're in the trenches and you're working every single day, no one's watching.

00:31:05.212 --> 00:31:07.801
It's like building a podcast man.

00:31:07.801 --> 00:31:15.939
There's a lot of work that goes into building a podcast and reaching people and having amazing conversations, and it's not just about getting reach and getting more exposure.

00:31:15.939 --> 00:31:16.961
But it takes time.

00:31:16.961 --> 00:31:19.116
It's not something that happens overnight.

00:31:19.116 --> 00:31:21.576
I know you've done a lot of awesome episodes, dorsey.

00:31:22.839 --> 00:31:23.260
Thank you.

00:31:23.260 --> 00:31:28.622
How do you merge business and Jesus together?

00:31:28.622 --> 00:31:35.817
I'm sorry business, and how do you move business and Jesus together?

00:31:37.652 --> 00:31:39.878
I'm sorry, business, and what was the last word?

00:31:39.878 --> 00:31:41.434
Jesus Christ?

00:31:41.434 --> 00:31:45.037
Oh Jesus, yeah, yeah, that's a great question.

00:31:45.037 --> 00:31:51.353
I think that was something that shifted with me with the John 15 chapter.

00:31:51.353 --> 00:32:15.336
It's like, you know, if business is a spiritual game, has a standard of excellence in everything about it and I just am not experiencing that in my business then what needs to change?

00:32:15.336 --> 00:32:29.718
I need to start getting alignment framed to the Lord and literally it comes when I first started and even still to this day I'm like Lord, I may not have all the answers, you have my mind, you have my heart, you have my soul, you have my hands.

00:32:29.718 --> 00:32:31.142
Everything is yours.

00:32:31.142 --> 00:32:48.481
Like let's go win the day, let's go impact some lives, let's go build something great together, right, and it's like this conversation and partnership with the Lord, and then when you make the money and grow your team, it has nothing to do with you.

00:32:48.481 --> 00:32:55.042
Obviously, you have to stay consistent of what you need to do for the day and be a steward of that.

00:32:55.042 --> 00:33:03.412
But at the end of the day, we're all dust, we're all dirt, we're all going to die one day, and that's how we started.

00:33:03.412 --> 00:33:20.082
So I'm not going to put a huge emphasis on my losses or my successes because I can have a steadfast steadiness and peace and fulfillment and contentment in my life, knowing that the Lord is going to provide, like he always does and he always will.

00:33:20.082 --> 00:33:24.224
Right, yeah, and so, yeah, how do you integrate it?

00:33:24.224 --> 00:33:28.768
You know, I would say you know, how can you not?

00:33:28.768 --> 00:33:35.684
Because here's another thing too, one of the things that I got a chance to consult with organizations.

00:33:35.684 --> 00:33:40.228
We would help them grow and scale the sales and make a lot of money with them, and it was great.

00:33:41.290 --> 00:33:45.069
But then it got to a point with the CEO and the business owners I was working with.

00:33:45.069 --> 00:33:51.217
The question became how much time are they abiding with the word of Christ every single day?

00:33:51.217 --> 00:33:59.494
And if the answer is zero and I'm working and serving the CEO and business owner, what does that say about me?

00:33:59.494 --> 00:34:10.378
And I just remember it's like I need to be working and building something for the kingdom so I don't just work in vain, and the Bible clearly talks about that too.

00:34:10.378 --> 00:34:15.322
And if you don't have peace, you're not bearing fruit in your life.

00:34:15.322 --> 00:34:20.853
Then I need to look around me and say Lord, what's going on Like?

00:34:20.853 --> 00:34:22.369
Is it just I'm in the wrong vehicle?

00:34:22.369 --> 00:34:23.818
I need to completely pivot, or is it.

00:34:23.818 --> 00:34:35.847
Just I need to be more patient and stay consistent with it and be more disciplined, because if you ask those questions, the Lord's going to instantly tell you, because most people know what they need to do, they're just not doing it.

00:34:36.780 --> 00:34:47.786
And so, with the Lord and business, it's always like Lord, this is my plan, this is how we're going to continue to market the organization, this is how we're going to scale and grow the organization.

00:34:47.786 --> 00:35:01.284
This is the plan right now, lord, if there's anything else that I missed or I'm not seeing, please let me know, because the last thing I would want to do is do something that's out of your plan and out of alignment with what you're trying and calling me to do.

00:35:01.284 --> 00:35:06.664
Right, and that's the level that it has to get to every single day in business.

00:35:06.664 --> 00:35:10.413
Right, it's like Lord, let's build, let's build, cultivate.

00:35:10.413 --> 00:35:15.983
And the last thing I'll say, with that is a byproduct of all that is the relationships in the business.

00:35:15.983 --> 00:35:31.634
Because when also and I kind of learned this about seven years ago, but it was just re-solidified about five years ago, when I implemented that burst in my life was relationship A lot of businesses that I consulted with were very transactional.

00:35:32.119 --> 00:35:49.210
It was like hey, let's run ads, let's market the company, let's close the deal, let's collect the cash and do it again, and that's great to be profitable, but if you're not developing and cultivating the relationship, how much long-term success are you really going to have?

00:35:49.210 --> 00:35:55.371
And that's why you see a lot of marketing agencies or companies on the internet that are extremely transactional.

00:35:55.371 --> 00:36:02.873
They may have some success in the short term, but they're no longer around, or you may not hear about them, or they shift or something happens.

00:36:02.873 --> 00:36:03.740
Why?

00:36:03.740 --> 00:36:06.467
Because they're not focusing on cultivating relationships.

00:36:06.467 --> 00:36:08.311
And that's how the Lord is.

00:36:08.311 --> 00:36:19.791
He wants a relationship with all of them, and if we can cultivate a relationship with the Lord and with ourselves, then we're going to be able to cultivate relationships with everyone around us.

00:36:19.791 --> 00:36:28.784
And if we do that, it's just a matter of time before the Lord's going to bless you in abundance and prosperity and give you exactly what you need.

00:36:28.784 --> 00:36:33.231
And it's like you know.

00:36:33.711 --> 00:36:51.126
I'm glad you brought this up, dorsey, because one of the things I also share and like to talk about is, you know, when I consulted with other organizations, I would help them grow and scale their company and I would pray for years, say Lord, I want my own offer, I want my own business and the Lord's like I want you here.

00:36:51.126 --> 00:36:52.969
Okay, I want you promoting this company.

00:36:52.969 --> 00:36:54.498
I want you promoting this company.

00:36:54.498 --> 00:36:59.913
I want you learning the skill sets, doing it as if it was your own business, because that's another thing.

00:37:00.400 --> 00:37:06.983
Treat if you are in a business, if you are working for an organization or for a company, treat it as if it's your own.

00:37:06.983 --> 00:37:14.751
Look around you, where your place, at your room, your office, everything around you Is it at a level of excellence?

00:37:14.751 --> 00:37:23.510
Because if I can't take care of, let's say, one room, why would the Lord bless me with a full, entire house, acres of land?

00:37:23.510 --> 00:37:27.630
It's like the Lord's going to bless us and meet us with what we can handle.

00:37:27.630 --> 00:37:39.172
If we can handle our position at our workplace, then he's going to give us more responsibility that's going to eventually blossom into a business.

00:37:43.179 --> 00:37:43.760
Whoever's listening to this?

00:37:43.760 --> 00:37:47.829
It's like look at what's in front of you on your plate and do it with the highest level of quality, as if this was your own, as if it was for the Lord.

00:37:47.829 --> 00:37:52.309
Don't do it for yourself, don't do it for others, do it for the Lord and start to see what happens.

00:37:52.309 --> 00:38:02.172
And that's a very humbling process and that's not easy, but if you can stay the path, stay humble, stay disciplined, stay consistent.

00:38:02.172 --> 00:38:04.865
You know the Bible talks about it too.

00:38:04.865 --> 00:38:05.467
It's a furnace.

00:38:05.467 --> 00:38:06.311
We go through a furnace.

00:38:06.311 --> 00:38:12.681
It's this incineration period where it burns the impurities from us, from our heart, from our mind, from our soul.

00:38:12.681 --> 00:38:23.554
That process is a painful process, but on the other side we're going to come out a new individual, the person that the Lord has always called us to be.

00:38:30.824 --> 00:38:34.280
And that's the final thing I'll say with this business in Jesus is that if you can incorporate it, it's really having core values.

00:38:34.440 --> 00:38:47.052
And if you have the Lord incorporated, then it doesn't matter what industry you're in, it doesn't matter what time of year it is, because if the Lord has favor over you, you're going to find a way.

00:38:47.052 --> 00:38:57.509
If Jesus rose again three days after the dead from the dead, after three days of being dead, I think he can help you create a profitable business.

00:38:57.509 --> 00:39:04.489
And that same Holy Spirit that's within Jesus is within all of us and we have access to it through the Holy Word of the Bible.

00:39:04.489 --> 00:39:11.188
And so, yeah, I mean it's the only way to do business and that's one of the things I'm passionate about.

00:39:11.188 --> 00:39:24.876
And people can grab a hold of that and abide in the Lord, and that's one of the things I'm passionate about, and people can grab a hold of that and abide in the Lord, and if the Lord's calling me to get into business, I'd be more than happy to connect with anyone that has questions on that, because it's absolutely changed my life and changed my business.

00:39:24.896 --> 00:39:25.978
Yeah, give me one second.

00:39:25.978 --> 00:39:30.375
In the last few minutes of this episode, I want to talk about purpose.

00:39:31.518 --> 00:39:31.719
Sure.

00:39:32.181 --> 00:39:37.550
What does purpose look like to you and how do you find your life purpose?

00:39:38.340 --> 00:39:39.385
Yeah, that's a great question.

00:39:39.385 --> 00:39:41.387
Well, a couple of things we have to understand.

00:39:41.387 --> 00:39:42.806
What does purpose mean?

00:39:42.806 --> 00:39:49.148
So the prefix P-U-R is set forth beforehand and pose is an intention.

00:39:49.148 --> 00:39:59.822
So if you just look at purpose of the word because there's my life's purpose and purpose those are two different things Purpose is set forth beforehand or the intention that's set forth beforehand.

00:40:00.384 --> 00:40:07.268
So if you think about it, you know, let's say that football back there, the purpose is for it to be a football and play a game with it.

00:40:07.268 --> 00:40:16.293
That's the purpose of it, right, but now and that purpose can shift every single day Maybe the purpose is to run it, maybe I can throw it, maybe I can catch it.

00:40:16.293 --> 00:40:17.885
That purpose changes.

00:40:17.885 --> 00:40:19.967
But what's my life's purpose?

00:40:19.967 --> 00:40:22.128
Why am I here on this earth?

00:40:22.128 --> 00:40:25.471
Now, that's a higher level thing.

00:40:25.471 --> 00:40:31.990
So there's understanding what my life's purpose is and understanding what my purpose is for today and so.

00:40:31.990 --> 00:40:39.447
But if you think about it though, purpose it's the purest, and pure P-U-R also is found in pure.

00:40:39.447 --> 00:40:42.487
It's the purest intention set forth beforehand.

00:40:42.487 --> 00:40:50.231
If you think about it, our life's purpose was set forth with the purest intention before we were ever created.

00:40:50.231 --> 00:40:58.942
If you think about that, we were hand designed and handcrafted by the creator With that.

00:40:58.942 --> 00:41:00.324
I need to understand.

00:41:00.324 --> 00:41:05.324
I need to understand that I have value, I have purpose and I'm here for a reason.

00:41:05.324 --> 00:41:13.592
Because a lot of people don't even believe that oh, the Lord can't use me, I'm not smart enough, whatever thing that they put there.

00:41:13.592 --> 00:41:16.222
They need to understand that they're here for a reason.

00:41:16.222 --> 00:41:22.847
If you look at the odds of why you're here, it's like one in 10 million or potentially, I don't even know, but it's a large number.

00:41:22.847 --> 00:41:27.385
You're better off playing the lottery, hitting the what was it?

00:41:27.385 --> 00:41:34.869
The lotto, the super eight or super six, whatever it is, because those odds are better than us being here.

00:41:34.869 --> 00:41:37.646
So the fact that you're here, there's a reason.

00:41:37.646 --> 00:41:43.768
And even for you, dorsey I mean, you inspire me every day, man there's purpose in everything that you do in your life, right?

00:41:43.768 --> 00:41:49.672
And so it's like you know, our life's purpose is something that's set forth beforehand.

00:41:50.114 --> 00:41:53.023
And then you take it even a step further and say service.

00:41:53.023 --> 00:41:55.510
We're here to serve.

00:41:55.510 --> 00:42:11.684
And the reason why I know that is because we're hardwired to serve, because when we serve and do things for other people, or when we serve, our brain releases dopamine, serotonin, oxytocin, all these amazing chemicals that make us feel good.

00:42:11.684 --> 00:42:12.304
Why?

00:42:12.304 --> 00:42:14.648
Because we as human beings are here to serve.

00:42:14.648 --> 00:42:21.224
So to understand our life's purpose at the high level this is the macro level is we're called to serve.

00:42:21.224 --> 00:42:25.902
So then the question becomes on the micro level, what are we serving?

00:42:25.902 --> 00:42:30.320
Are we serving ourselves, are we serving others or are we serving the creator?

00:42:30.320 --> 00:42:33.088
There's three levels myself, others and the creator.

00:42:33.088 --> 00:42:40.585
So then at that point, sometimes I'm in the wrong vehicle and sometimes I'm in the right vehicle, serving the wrong person.

00:42:40.585 --> 00:42:52.666
So let's say I'm running a business, but I'm serving myself and only myself, versus I'm in the right business, I'm in the right industry, I'm in the right vehicle, but now I just need to shift from serving myself to serving the Lord.

00:42:53.628 --> 00:42:57.153
And then that question becomes hey, lord, is this what I'm truly called to do?

00:42:57.153 --> 00:42:59.387
Am I called to do this?

00:42:59.387 --> 00:43:02.489
And one of the things to look at is does it give you energy?

00:43:02.489 --> 00:43:03.983
Does it excite you?

00:43:03.983 --> 00:43:05.007
Are you passionate about it?

00:43:05.007 --> 00:43:05.239
Are you?

00:43:05.239 --> 00:43:06.505
Does it bring you peace?

00:43:06.505 --> 00:43:08.030
Are you bearing fruit?

00:43:08.980 --> 00:43:12.884
Because what happens if you do something and you hate it, it's taken from it.

00:43:12.884 --> 00:43:17.248
It's not bringing you peace, it's not bringing you, it takes away from your passion.

00:43:17.248 --> 00:43:24.175
Then it's like you're trying to put a square peg in a circle in a circle, a hole.

00:43:24.175 --> 00:43:25.295
It doesn't work.

00:43:25.295 --> 00:43:31.672
And you could try to force your way in and try to figure it out and put it willpower over it and do it your way.

00:43:31.672 --> 00:43:53.976
And trust me, I'm stubborn, I know I'm trying to do it that way, but that's not what you're called to do, because when you're called to do something, not only will you enjoy it, you have peace, you're going to get accelerated results in a pretty short period of time, like I remember when I shot a basketball, I just had a natural.

00:43:53.976 --> 00:44:00.605
I would just shoot it, and obviously I wasn't the greatest player in the world.

00:44:00.605 --> 00:44:05.945
But if I just practiced it for like a couple of days, I had an accelerated results because I was naturally good at it.

00:44:05.945 --> 00:44:09.597
But things like ice skating no, ice skating is not for me.

00:44:09.597 --> 00:44:11.722
I'm probably going to bust my neck, break my ankle.

00:44:11.722 --> 00:44:13.967
That's something that I stay far away from.

00:44:14.007 --> 00:44:22.148
So it's like also having that understanding of what you're good at and what you're not good at, because we're all designed differently.

00:44:22.148 --> 00:44:23.972
Think of an animal.

00:44:23.972 --> 00:44:25.822
Animals are good example.

00:44:25.822 --> 00:44:32.565
Well, animals, depending on how they're made and how they're created, they thrive in certain environments and they thrive doing other things.

00:44:32.565 --> 00:44:33.686
So have it some.

00:44:33.686 --> 00:44:44.371
Just like you know, if you think about like a snail snail just sleeps all day, stays protected Then you got a cheetah who actually goes out and hunts Like we're all part of the whole right.

00:44:44.371 --> 00:44:47.644
It's like another way to think of it is like our body.

00:44:47.644 --> 00:44:50.568
You have fingers, hands, legs, arms.

00:44:50.568 --> 00:45:01.362
Is a thumb more important than a toe?

00:45:01.362 --> 00:45:03.306
No, because we both need our thumb and we need our toes right, and they both play a purpose.

00:45:03.306 --> 00:45:09.409
But when they're attached to the source and to our body, they make us complete, and without it then we're missing something.

00:45:09.809 --> 00:45:11.882
And so how to find your life's purpose?

00:45:11.882 --> 00:45:13.447
You got to get clear on who you're serving.

00:45:13.447 --> 00:45:18.981
Am I serving myself?

00:45:18.981 --> 00:45:19.384
Am I serving others?

00:45:19.384 --> 00:45:19.826
Am I serving the Lord?

00:45:19.826 --> 00:45:28.032
Now I can get clear on serving the Lord every single day and, like I said before, if you don't know what that looks like, asking him and demanding and expecting an answer, saying, hey, lord, I'm serving you.

00:45:28.032 --> 00:45:29.882
Today I'm doing whatever I have.

00:45:29.882 --> 00:45:33.746
My heart, my mind, my soul, my hands, all the skills that you've given me is yours.

00:45:33.746 --> 00:45:39.295
How can we get to work today If you're just coming with that mentality and that mindset?

00:45:39.295 --> 00:45:40.295
What's going to start to happen?

00:45:40.295 --> 00:45:45.206
You're going to start to find opportunities to serve the Lord right, because the Lord's looking for people to work.

00:45:45.206 --> 00:45:48.403
You know, the workers are few and the harvest is plenty.

00:45:48.503 --> 00:45:51.289
One of the sayings I like to say all are called, but few pick up.

00:45:51.289 --> 00:45:53.192
Only a few picked up the call.

00:45:53.192 --> 00:46:02.927
Because we're all called here and we all play a purpose in this thing called life, and so it's just a matter of making sure that we serve the Lord and in the micro it's a purpose.

00:46:02.927 --> 00:46:04.163
It's just like.

00:46:04.163 --> 00:46:05.507
What does that look like?

00:46:05.507 --> 00:46:08.750
Let's say you want to lose weight, that's the goal.

00:46:08.750 --> 00:46:12.599
And then I start to create a plan to achieve those goals.

00:46:12.599 --> 00:46:15.019
And then I start to create a plan to achieve those goals and then I can start to find purpose in my everyday life.

00:46:15.019 --> 00:46:19.548
But once you get clear on that, you're serving the Lord and how to create a purpose driven business.

00:46:19.981 --> 00:46:25.007
Another thing is, once you found your purpose, now it's how do I make money with it?

00:46:25.007 --> 00:46:33.407
Well, how do we make money with it is who are you called to serve, what problems are you called to solve and how are you called to solve that problem?

00:46:33.407 --> 00:46:43.289
And what I like to do is start with people that you can relate with Like for me, I can relate with athletes Help people that are transitioning out of sports.

00:46:43.289 --> 00:46:45.045
That's the individual.

00:46:45.045 --> 00:46:46.224
That's where they're at in their life.

00:46:46.481 --> 00:46:57.186
The problem are people that are struggling to find their life's purpose, and then the solution is through my books, my keynotes, the purpose-driven businesses that I build through my content online.

00:46:57.186 --> 00:47:07.112
It's all surrounded that, and if the problem is big enough or the problem is experienced by a lot of people, people are going to be willing to pay you money.

00:47:07.112 --> 00:47:10.335
And so, bigger the problem, bigger the solution, bigger the payout.

00:47:10.335 --> 00:47:12.724
Smaller the problem, smaller the solution, smaller the payout.

00:47:12.724 --> 00:47:19.829
But if you look at all great organizations like, if you look at like Amazon, you can order something and get something shipped to your door in 24 hours.

00:47:19.829 --> 00:47:27.695
That's pretty convenient, right, and that's a problem that the logistics industry couldn't solve for the longest time.

00:47:27.695 --> 00:47:29.561
But that's whatever customer wants.

00:47:29.561 --> 00:47:42.041
They want to purchase something and they want it shipped to their door, ideally that day, but if not today, tomorrow, and if you can do that, you can now get paid on doing that.

00:47:42.061 --> 00:47:54.710
Hopefully that gives you some insight and once you know who you serve, what problems you solve and then how you call to solve that problem, that's going to give you a perfect statement, your mission statement I help blank.

00:47:54.710 --> 00:48:06.677
I help athletes with their problem find their life's purpose through blank, through the solution, through books, purpose-driven businesses, presentations, content, online.

00:48:06.677 --> 00:48:15.175
And then you start to formulate that and it starts to come to love and it starts to cultivate and you start to get clearer around the vision.

00:48:15.175 --> 00:48:31.385
Because there's another saying if the Lord gives you a vision, he's not going to tell you everything that you need to do to achieve the vision, because if you understood how much work you need to do to achieve the vision, then most people won't pursue their dreams and their vision Right and so high level.

00:48:31.686 --> 00:48:32.489
I'm serving the Lord.

00:48:32.489 --> 00:48:33.751
Who am I serving?

00:48:33.751 --> 00:48:37.951
That's going to give me my life's purpose, that's, our life's purpose is to serve one another and to serve the Lord.

00:48:37.951 --> 00:48:42.391
Because if we can serve the Lord, simultaneously, we're going to be serving others and ourselves.

00:48:42.391 --> 00:48:53.068
And then, as a byproduct of that, we're now going to find something that's bigger than ourselves and we're going to start to look around us and be like, hey, how can I serve you, lord?

00:48:53.068 --> 00:48:54.952
Well, how can I serve your people?

00:48:54.952 --> 00:48:56.440
How can I serve Okay?

00:48:56.440 --> 00:48:58.688
Well, I see these people out here struggling with this.

00:48:58.688 --> 00:48:59.791
They have problems.

00:48:59.791 --> 00:49:02.005
Well, what's the solution?

00:49:02.005 --> 00:49:02.969
Let's say they're hungry.

00:49:02.969 --> 00:49:05.047
Well, how can we get them food?

00:49:05.047 --> 00:49:07.128
Well, I can start a restaurant.

00:49:07.480 --> 00:49:17.112
Well, whatever the case may be, whoever you feel drawn to, that you see people that you can relate to and you have a heart for, and you see them experiencing problems.

00:49:17.112 --> 00:49:26.065
It's like that's how you can create a business, that's how you can find your life's purpose, that's how you can serve the Lord is.

00:49:26.065 --> 00:49:27.088
Look around you.

00:49:27.088 --> 00:49:27.990
Who do you tell?

00:49:27.990 --> 00:49:30.807
Because a lot of people in this world they need help.

00:49:30.807 --> 00:49:37.407
We all need help, and so the Lord saved us by the mercy and grace of God, and so do that.

00:49:37.407 --> 00:49:44.188
And then you can start to find problems around you, provide solutions, and now you can get paid for those solutions.

00:49:44.188 --> 00:49:47.210
Now you create a business around helping and serving people and serving the Lord.

00:49:47.210 --> 00:49:51.726
And I always tell people, if you partner with the creator of the universe, good things will start to happen.

00:49:52.288 --> 00:49:54.130
And it doesn't really have to be.

00:49:54.130 --> 00:49:59.967
You know, a business you know your purpose doesn't necessarily mean you have to.

00:49:59.967 --> 00:50:01.913
You know, go into business.

00:50:01.913 --> 00:50:09.527
You know purpose can be helping people at church or helping people Absolutely, you know you help your family.

00:50:10.000 --> 00:50:13.836
You know that purpose, that purpose, it will evolve every day.

00:50:13.836 --> 00:50:19.557
Man, You're like a, you're like a missionary like a, you're like a military on deployment.

00:50:19.557 --> 00:50:27.847
That mission changes every day and every second Cause, you know, let's say, like things in California, things happen, fires, people's houses burned down.

00:50:27.847 --> 00:50:29.510
My mission is going to change.

00:50:29.510 --> 00:50:34.286
Right, If I'm in that situation, my mission and my purpose that day is going to shift to something else.

00:50:34.286 --> 00:50:38.094
Right, so it's like, but at a high level, I'm always serving the Lord.

00:50:38.094 --> 00:50:44.523
So, whatever that looks like for individuals that's listening to this and where they're at, it's like how can I serve the Lord today?

00:50:44.523 --> 00:50:49.559
And that starts with, you know, taking out some sin in our life.

00:50:49.559 --> 00:50:54.625
Maybe it's with the people around us, foreign life and the people around us, with our friends and our family.

00:50:54.625 --> 00:51:01.530
It could be the smallest little thing, but if we do it for the Lord, those little things start to become big things.

00:51:01.831 --> 00:51:17.364
Yeah, as I thought, as I, you know, thinking about asking you these questions, a song came into my mind, and it's the 80s Stephen Taylor Chapman Chapman song.

00:51:17.364 --> 00:51:31.043
You know more to this life, and of course, but there's more to this life than living and dying, more to this life than trying to make it through the day, more to this life, more than the eyes alone can see, and there's more to this life alone can be.

00:51:31.043 --> 00:51:38.490
Tonight he lies in silence, staring into the space and looks for ways to make tomorrow better than today.

00:51:38.490 --> 00:51:41.329
But in the morning light it looks the same.

00:51:41.329 --> 00:51:44.027
Life just goes on.

00:51:44.027 --> 00:51:58.980
And in my thinking, what I'm trying to, how I interpret that, is he's saying that sometimes, when we wake up the next day, we should go back to what we did the day before.

00:51:58.980 --> 00:52:03.347
We don't try to make changes to the next day.

00:52:03.347 --> 00:52:04.230
To make life.

00:52:04.230 --> 00:52:05.391
You know more.

00:52:05.391 --> 00:52:11.170
You know have, like you're saying, have life a purpose each day.

00:52:12.652 --> 00:52:14.583
Sure, yeah, absolutely.

00:52:14.583 --> 00:52:17.992
And yeah, man, man, we got to make every day count.

00:52:17.992 --> 00:52:33.248
We have to win the day it, make the most of it, because we don't know when that day's gonna come, because we're all on borrowed time, right, and it's like that day is gonna come for all of us, and so we have to make it worthwhile today, right and so, and so I agree.

00:52:33.248 --> 00:52:41.463
And then also too, life isn't you know, you didn't even talk about it in the Bible too, it was, uh, you know, samuel, king Samuel.

00:52:42.385 --> 00:52:48.320
Life's more than just earthly pleasures, you know, like personal gain and earthly pleasures.

00:52:48.320 --> 00:53:09.288
And if we all can get to a place where it's like, hey, we're here, not because we're whoever it is, or it's because of our own willpower, it's due to the fact that we're a small part into the greater whole of things, then life starts to change.

00:53:09.288 --> 00:53:14.644
You don't become the center of the universe, you don't become the center of the world or your day.

00:53:14.644 --> 00:53:15.567
Now.

00:53:15.567 --> 00:53:21.664
You revolve your day around the Lord, and when you do that, the Lord does miracles.

00:53:21.664 --> 00:53:37.079
He works miracles every single day, and if you just are open to receiving that and you're open to contributing to it, the Lord's going to continue to bless you and he's going to continue to give you opportunity to do so to continue to give you the opportunity to do so.

00:53:42.480 --> 00:53:46.079
Can you give us one or two Bible verses where you see the Bible talking about purpose for our lives versus purpose in general?

00:53:47.041 --> 00:53:48.626
Yeah, there's just one verse.

00:53:48.626 --> 00:53:51.980
I think it's Jeremiah.

00:53:51.980 --> 00:53:54.045
I want to say it's Jeremiah 2.10.

00:53:54.045 --> 00:53:57.543
Let me just confirm here oh, ephesians 2.10.

00:53:57.543 --> 00:53:58.829
This is it.

00:53:58.829 --> 00:54:00.134
I got the wrong chapter.

00:54:00.134 --> 00:54:01.297
I'm in Jeremiah right now.

00:54:01.297 --> 00:54:03.302
It's Ephesians 2.10, not Jeremiah 2.10.

00:54:03.985 --> 00:54:11.047
It's for we are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good work which God prepared in advance for us to do.

00:54:11.047 --> 00:54:17.161
That's like you know.

00:54:17.161 --> 00:54:22.746
You know, for we are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works which God prepared in advance for us to do.

00:54:22.746 --> 00:54:28.152
Like we're called to do good things, man, like the Lord's, handcrafted us this way.

00:54:28.152 --> 00:54:31.496
Another one I like is Proverbs 16, verse nine.

00:54:32.820 --> 00:54:41.405
It says the heart of man plans his way, but the Lord establishes his steps, and so that's another thing.

00:54:41.405 --> 00:54:42.027
It's just like.

00:54:42.027 --> 00:54:48.045
Again, you know I can try to do it my way, but the Lord's going to establish our steps.

00:54:48.045 --> 00:54:49.688
But how does he establish our steps?

00:54:49.688 --> 00:54:51.541
He establishes our steps with.

00:54:51.983 --> 00:55:02.293
You know our passions, what excites us, where we live, our family, like everything about our lives, of who we're related to, where we live.

00:55:02.293 --> 00:55:05.043
You know how we act, how we think.

00:55:05.043 --> 00:55:07.769
You know what we like, what we dislike.

00:55:07.769 --> 00:55:09.793
That is established.

00:55:09.793 --> 00:55:17.253
That's the Lord establishing our step, right, like I said before, I'm not going to be drawn towards ice skating because that's not my plan.

00:55:17.253 --> 00:55:18.806
That's not what excites me.

00:55:18.806 --> 00:55:21.387
In fact it terrifies me.

00:55:21.387 --> 00:55:25.023
I don't want to get injured, but those are things.

00:55:25.023 --> 00:55:34.679
The desires of our hearts are also going to determine our life, and so the more that we can get invested in the Lord, the more we can understand his plan and we can live out the purpose.

00:55:34.679 --> 00:55:36.146
So those are some good ones.

00:55:36.146 --> 00:55:38.025
I'll send you a couple more.

00:55:38.025 --> 00:55:41.670
We may be posted on the bottom of the comment section.

00:55:41.670 --> 00:55:46.070
But yeah, there's a lot of good ones, but those are some of the few that come to my mind recently.

00:55:46.739 --> 00:55:54.733
How can people, if they wanted to connect with you and say hello and see what else you're up to?

00:55:55.775 --> 00:56:01.824
Sure, well, if you ever want to connect with me, make sure to reach out to Doris to give him a big hug for me.

00:56:01.824 --> 00:56:11.362
But yeah, you can find me on LinkedIn or Instagram, and those are probably the easiest ways, or Facebook, but I would say Instagram and LinkedIn are the easiest.

00:56:11.362 --> 00:56:19.510
If you just type in LinkedIn, tyler Cerny, you'll find me, and LinkedIn or I'm sorry, instagram, if you type in Tyler Cerny, you'll find me too.

00:56:19.510 --> 00:56:28.407
