What if a simple Easter reading turned into a four–year journey to make Scripture clear, warm, and deeply readable? That’s the path Dan Parr took, blending his craft as a professional voice actor with a steady, faithful approach to translation so more people can encounter the Bible without tripping over dated language or dense phrasing. Guided by Proverbs 16:3, Dan shares how reluctance gave way to calling, and how prayer plus meticulous research shaped a version that preserves meaning while speaking directly to modern listeners.

We dig into the nuts and bolts: starting with the public–domain World English Bible, refining verse by verse, and validating choices against trusted translations like NIV, NLT, RSV, and NET. Dan explains why concision matters for comprehension, how he updates ancient measures and terms, and what it took to tackle challenging books like Corinthians without thinning the theology. As a narrator, he reveals how pacing, tone, and pauses turn text into an immersive, living experience—one reason thousands of hours have already been streamed on Audible.

Accessibility sits at the heart of this story. Dan outlines flexible ways to engage Scripture—chronological and traditional orders, start-any-month reading plans, and single-book editions for focused study—so newcomers and seasoned readers alike can find an on-ramp that fits real life. We also look ahead to Dad’s Words to Gen Z, a year of short daily devotionals crafted to encourage a generation navigating doubt, purpose, and identity with a steady fatherly voice.

If you’re curious about how faith and craft can work together to serve readers, or you’re searching for a Bible you can actually stick with, this conversation brings practical ideas and heartfelt insight. Listen, share it with someone who’s been hesitant to open a Bible, and tell us which passage you want to hear in a fresh voice. Subscribe, leave a review, and help more people discover a clear path back into Scripture.

Dan, thank you so much for coming on the show today.

00:01:29.889 --> 00:01:31.009
It is my pleasure.

00:01:31.169 --> 00:01:33.009
Thank you so much for allowing me to.

00:01:33.169 --> 00:01:36.689
As soon as I saw your podcast out there, I thought, oh man, I'd love to be a part of that.

00:01:36.770 --> 00:01:39.490
And you were gracious enough to host me, so thank you.

00:01:39.810 --> 00:01:40.530
Yeah, definitely.

00:01:40.610 --> 00:01:48.530
I I'd like to get, you know, different topics and different ideas and you know conversations going, and you know, this is a unique one.

00:01:49.090 --> 00:02:00.370
I never had anybody come on that uh exactly authored and done a background study for a new translation of the Bible before.

00:02:00.449 --> 00:02:06.530
But I'd like to open up with an icebreaker question on my show.

00:02:07.009 --> 00:02:14.770
And today's icebreaker question is what's the best piece of advice you ever received?

00:02:15.729 --> 00:02:18.449
That is a great question, and I'm glad you asked that.

00:02:18.610 --> 00:02:21.969
And it came to me early in my life, unexpectedly.

00:02:22.210 --> 00:02:26.689
I was reading the book of Proverbs, and I came across Proverbs 16, 3.

00:02:26.930 --> 00:02:30.050
Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and your plans will succeed.

00:02:30.210 --> 00:02:31.810
And I really took that to heart.

00:02:31.890 --> 00:02:35.090
When I read it, it just something really resonated with me.

00:02:35.250 --> 00:02:40.770
And so I started thinking about that verse and became one of my life verses, honestly, Dorsey.

00:02:41.010 --> 00:02:44.050
And I was thinking about that and getting ready.

00:02:44.210 --> 00:02:48.610
I was in my early 20s, getting ready to make a major move across country.

00:02:48.770 --> 00:02:51.730
And that verse had been running in my mind for months.

00:02:51.890 --> 00:02:57.010
And as I was getting ready to leave, my father presented me with a Bible.

00:02:57.250 --> 00:03:06.930
And in the beginning of the Bible, you know, the little dedication from and to, he had wrote under there, Commit to the Lord, whatever you do and your plans will succeed, Proverbs 16, 3.

00:03:07.010 --> 00:03:10.849
And I had never told him about that verse that was meaningful to me.

00:03:11.090 --> 00:03:14.050
He just happened to randomly write that.

00:03:14.129 --> 00:03:15.730
Now, we know it's not random, right?

00:03:15.810 --> 00:03:17.969
It was the Lord orchestrating that.

00:03:18.450 --> 00:03:24.050
But yeah, so that's that's one of the verses that has always meant something to me.

00:03:24.290 --> 00:03:28.290
And it's still one that I try to live by as I engage in any new venture.

00:03:28.530 --> 00:03:30.290
Am I committed to the Lord?

00:03:30.689 --> 00:03:37.170
Meaning, is it his will necessarily, and not necessarily me trying to put my own influence into it?

00:03:37.330 --> 00:03:39.250
But can I say, Lord, this is yours.

00:03:39.409 --> 00:03:40.770
If you want to bless it, bless it.

00:03:40.849 --> 00:03:43.730
If you want me to go another way, that's fine too.

00:03:43.969 --> 00:03:46.370
It's all about you, not necessarily me.

00:03:46.530 --> 00:03:49.409
So I would say that's the best piece of advice I've received.

00:03:49.569 --> 00:03:51.969
Commit to the Lord, whatever you do, and your plans will succeed.

00:03:52.290 --> 00:03:52.849
Amen.

00:03:53.650 --> 00:04:15.569
There's so many, as I, you know, mentioned a little bit ago, you know, you order a new Bible translation, and there's so many different Bible translations out there that we can read, we can get a hold of, or we can go on a Bible app, different Bible apps, even, and go through the list of different Bible translations.

00:04:16.209 --> 00:04:23.810
What you know made you decide, you know, that there needed to be another Bible translation out there.

00:04:24.209 --> 00:04:25.329
Yeah, it's funny.

00:04:25.490 --> 00:04:28.930
I didn't think there needed to be another Bible translation out there.

00:04:29.170 --> 00:04:35.009
I looked at the Bible Gateway and there's like 50 translations that are out there already.

00:04:35.250 --> 00:04:38.290
And I argued with the Lord about this.

00:04:39.009 --> 00:04:40.689
I didn't want to do this.

00:04:40.930 --> 00:04:47.569
Five years ago, if you had told me that I was going to come out with a new version of the Bible, I would have said you were crazy.

00:04:47.730 --> 00:04:49.410
That was not on my radar.

00:04:49.730 --> 00:04:51.250
But here's what happened.

00:04:51.490 --> 00:04:56.530
I wanted to have something I could throw up on my Facebook around Easter, you know, me reading the Bible.

00:04:56.610 --> 00:05:01.490
I had gotten some good feedback from people in my Sunday school class saying they really like it when I read.

00:05:01.730 --> 00:05:04.449
And so I thought, well, put something up for Easter on my Facebook.

00:05:04.530 --> 00:05:15.410
So I went to the book of Luke, found the story of the resurrection of Christ, and thought I could probably put my own little spin on this without changing the intent or the meaning of it.

00:05:15.569 --> 00:05:16.209
So I did that.

00:05:16.290 --> 00:05:22.689
I did the narration for the book of the resurrection story of Jesus from the book of Luke.

00:05:23.170 --> 00:05:28.769
And after I got done with that, I put it up on Facebook, got some good feedback, and I thought, you know what I'm gonna do?

00:05:28.930 --> 00:05:32.209
And this is obviously not me because this is not in my nature.

00:05:32.449 --> 00:05:34.530
I thought, I'm gonna do the entire book of Luke.

00:05:34.610 --> 00:05:39.970
I'm gonna rewrite the book of Luke with my own way in a modern, kind of relatable way.

00:05:40.129 --> 00:05:45.410
So if anybody who doesn't know anything about the Bible, they can just pick this up, read it, and it'll make sense to them.

00:05:45.650 --> 00:05:46.850
So that was my goal.

00:05:47.009 --> 00:05:49.329
And so that was just huge for me.

00:05:49.490 --> 00:05:51.410
So I thought I'm gonna do the book of Luke.

00:05:51.569 --> 00:05:53.329
And so I did the book of Luke.

00:05:53.490 --> 00:06:00.209
And, you know, I was going to originally just pick up like the NIV, which has been my favorite for years, and just read it.

00:06:00.290 --> 00:06:05.009
But you can't do that if you want to sell it because, you know, they've got trademarks, copyrights on it.

00:06:05.170 --> 00:06:08.930
They spent thousands of dollars and literally years putting these things together.

00:06:09.009 --> 00:06:10.370
So I understand that.

00:06:10.449 --> 00:06:12.530
Um so I had to come out with a new version.

00:06:12.689 --> 00:06:17.569
And I thought, well, I'll just, excuse me, I'll just do something that's in public domain.

00:06:17.810 --> 00:06:21.569
So I found the King James Version and started reading it a little bit.

00:06:21.650 --> 00:06:23.250
And I thought, yeah, that's not going to work.

00:06:23.490 --> 00:06:28.530
So God bless all the people that can hear God from the King James Version, but I'm not one of them.

00:06:28.769 --> 00:06:33.650
So I found another version in the public domain called the World English Bible.

00:06:33.730 --> 00:06:41.490
And it's a good, faithful translation, interdenominational Bible scholars and experts put this together and they put it in public domain.

00:06:41.569 --> 00:06:43.970
And I read it and I thought, this is a good base.

00:06:44.370 --> 00:06:56.689
As good as it is, though, they had some phrasing that was a bit clunky for me to read, and some word choices that I thought could be clear, several of them.

00:06:56.930 --> 00:07:00.689
So I took that as a base and started working from it.

00:07:00.850 --> 00:07:07.970
And I did the book of Luke, and I got done with the book of Luke, and I really enjoyed the process, but boy, was I glad it was done.

00:07:08.209 --> 00:07:10.129
It was just a long process.

00:07:10.449 --> 00:07:12.769
And I got done with the book of Luke.

00:07:13.090 --> 00:07:17.569
And a little while later, the Holy Spirit just seemed to prompt me.

00:07:17.810 --> 00:07:22.769
You know, Acts is really the book of Luke part two, if you think about it.

00:07:23.009 --> 00:07:26.530
And so I thought, okay, I'll do the book of Acts also.

00:07:26.850 --> 00:07:29.889
So I did the book of Acts and again enjoyed the process.

00:07:30.050 --> 00:07:33.170
It was like me working on a project with my father, right?

00:07:33.329 --> 00:07:35.410
God and I working together on this.

00:07:35.650 --> 00:07:40.290
I'd be come across a passage, not be sure how to phrase it or how to say it.

00:07:40.449 --> 00:07:42.129
And so I'd become a little frustrated.

00:07:42.209 --> 00:07:43.650
And I thought, God, how do I say this?

00:07:43.810 --> 00:07:45.009
What am I supposed to say here?

00:07:45.170 --> 00:07:46.209
What does this mean?

00:07:46.449 --> 00:07:55.170
And inevitably, he would lead me to a resource or a translation or a commentary that would explain it in a different way, would help me wrap my mind around it.

00:07:55.250 --> 00:08:01.009
Then I was able to take that and phrase it in a way that was easy to understand and read.

00:08:01.490 --> 00:08:04.209
So I did that for the book of Acts.

00:08:04.530 --> 00:08:08.769
And then, as he often does, he leads you along bit by bit, right?

00:08:09.730 --> 00:08:15.329
And during that time, Dorsey, I was thinking, God, we don't need another translation of the Bible.

00:08:15.410 --> 00:08:16.930
There's plenty of them out there.

00:08:17.090 --> 00:08:19.650
There's there's no point in me doing this.

00:08:20.050 --> 00:08:22.610
And said that to him several times.

00:08:22.850 --> 00:08:32.049
And eventually I got to the point where I was hearing a voice, not audibly, but just in my spirit, saying, Why don't you let me decide what's necessary and what's not?

00:08:32.289 --> 00:08:35.490
And I thought, oh, okay.

00:08:36.449 --> 00:08:40.610
And so four years later, the whole thing got done.

00:08:40.769 --> 00:08:44.129
It was a long, challenging process.

00:08:44.610 --> 00:08:50.209
But again, it was something that I enjoyed because it was really like me working with my Heavenly Father.

00:08:50.289 --> 00:08:57.089
And there was just a sweet time of fellowship, and just his presence was very near and dear to me during that time.

00:08:57.329 --> 00:09:04.049
So I put it out there, and lo and behold, people seem to enjoy it and start buying it and listening to it.

00:09:04.209 --> 00:09:09.649
But really, the whole thing is just like a love offering, my love offering to God.

00:09:09.809 --> 00:09:12.370
And that's that's how it all came to be.

00:09:13.089 --> 00:09:19.809
So what I'm understanding is you just went to the one, I forget the name of the translation that you used.

00:09:20.049 --> 00:09:35.489
You just went to that translation, took what that was, and then just and then just put it into your own work, what you felt God was saying to you for your own translation.

00:09:35.809 --> 00:09:36.209
Correct.

00:09:36.289 --> 00:09:36.449
Yeah.

00:09:36.529 --> 00:09:42.529
So I took the World English Bible, and you know, I liked it, but there were some challenges to it for me.

00:09:42.689 --> 00:09:58.609
And so, you know, you had to go through it word by word, verse by verse, chapter by chapter, book by book, to kind of reword it without changing the intent or the meaning of the author and say it in a way that, you know, anyone could understand.

00:09:58.769 --> 00:10:07.569
If they have no meaning or have no understanding of Jesus or who God is, they can pick this up, you know, in the 2000s and say, oh, that makes sense to me.

00:10:07.729 --> 00:10:20.609
You know, words like mites, farthings, cubits, those are either explained in the text or I use, you know, a translation, uh word translation that would fit for today.

00:10:21.969 --> 00:10:29.809
Did you find any old translations or old manuscripts to look at as well?

00:10:30.049 --> 00:10:35.649
Or was it specifically for the for that Bible translation that you were using?

00:10:36.049 --> 00:10:46.209
Yeah, I looked at many, many different translations: NLT, RSV, NK, J V, so many translations, N-E-T, N I V.

00:10:46.609 --> 00:10:58.209
There's and I had to do that to one, say something different, and two, so I could understand it, and three, put it in a way that would be understandable for anyone who picks it up.

00:10:58.449 --> 00:11:00.289
So I felt very fortunate.

00:11:00.370 --> 00:11:07.329
Um, you know, I'm not a theologian, I'm not a Bible scholar, I don't have a seminary degree.

00:11:07.409 --> 00:11:10.289
I've taken some seminary classes, but I don't have a seminary degree.

00:11:10.529 --> 00:12:17.699
But I feel like I had a team of experts surrounding me because I had all this work that they have already done and put out there that I could draw from and use and incorporate into my work.

00:12:17.860 --> 00:12:31.379
So, you know, I was doing it by myself and with the help of the father, obviously, but I felt like I had just a team of hundreds behind me supporting me in this effort because I was able to draw from their experience and from their work.

00:12:33.299 --> 00:12:45.779
How has your faith learning influenced your work as a narrator and a publisher when it comes to this book and other books that you've written?

00:12:46.339 --> 00:12:47.699
Yeah, great question.

00:12:47.860 --> 00:12:51.860
You know, I think the Bible is the greatest piece of literature ever written.

00:12:52.019 --> 00:12:54.339
And by trade, I'm a voiceover talent.

00:12:54.740 --> 00:12:57.779
So people will send me scripts to read for them.

00:12:58.019 --> 00:13:01.939
And, you know, I wanted to marry those two passions together.

00:13:02.179 --> 00:13:07.219
And so that was really the start of how I got into, you know, narrating the Bible.

00:13:07.459 --> 00:13:13.379
Again, I had never planned on narrating the whole thing, but uh God had other plans, obviously.

00:13:14.179 --> 00:13:21.379
But as I wanted to read the Bible, I wanted to make it engaging and I wanted to make it relatable.

00:13:21.620 --> 00:13:25.219
And, you know, that was part of the feedback I would get from people at church.

00:13:25.379 --> 00:13:27.939
They would say, you know, we really enjoy it when you read.

00:13:28.099 --> 00:13:35.779
And in fact, I remember one teacher, a comp, he says, you know, every time I ask for volunteers, Dan, I hope you're going to be one that reads from scripture for us.

00:13:36.019 --> 00:13:37.779
He says, I love to hear your voice when you read it.

00:13:37.939 --> 00:13:39.939
And that's obviously just of God.

00:13:40.019 --> 00:13:41.699
It's nothing of me, right?

00:13:41.779 --> 00:13:44.500
It's just something that He has gifted me with.

00:13:44.659 --> 00:13:46.979
And I can't take any credit for that.

00:13:47.059 --> 00:13:51.139
Um, but I thought, if it's a gift, then I want to be able to use it to help the body.

00:13:51.299 --> 00:13:52.740
We all have a part to play.

00:13:52.899 --> 00:13:58.019
Everyone has something unique about them and a message to share.

00:13:58.259 --> 00:14:03.939
And, you know, it took me, you know, 50 years to find mine, but eventually, eventually I did.

00:14:04.179 --> 00:14:11.860
And once you do that, um, you know, I can't help but just bolster your faith and grow, uh, especially something as intimate as the word of God.

00:14:11.939 --> 00:14:17.379
You know, I'm one of those crazy people who believe the word when it says it's alive and active and sharper than a two-edged sword.

00:14:17.539 --> 00:14:19.139
Um, I've seen it in my own life.

00:14:19.379 --> 00:14:26.019
When you get into the word and you're in it on a daily basis, like I was doing the translation, it can't help but change you.

00:14:26.099 --> 00:14:29.539
You know, it's like a small seed that gets put in you.

00:14:29.779 --> 00:14:46.419
And eventually, as you water it, as you tend it, meaning as you spend time thinking about it, praying about it, reading it, you know, God begins to do a work in you and you begin to have different desires and you begin to have different things pop up, different opportunities pop up.

00:14:46.579 --> 00:14:48.819
And it's just the work of God in you.

00:14:48.979 --> 00:14:52.019
I can't explain how it happens, it just does.

00:14:52.179 --> 00:14:57.539
And so that's why, you know, I put out different versions of the Bible where people can read it in a year if they want to.

00:14:57.699 --> 00:14:58.579
And it's not hard.

00:14:58.659 --> 00:15:03.539
You know, if you spend 10 minutes a day in the Bible, you can get through it in a year.

00:15:03.860 --> 00:15:13.699
And so, you know, I've got different versions out there where if you want to start in the month of October, you can read it through in a year, or if you want to start in the month of June, you can read it through any year.

00:15:14.019 --> 00:15:21.219
But yeah, it's just really helped me get a better sense of who God is and his love for us.

00:15:21.379 --> 00:15:25.059
And as I went through the Bible, that's one thing that became very, very clear.

00:15:25.299 --> 00:15:28.740
The whole thing is just his love story for us.

00:15:28.899 --> 00:15:36.659
It's all about him trying to redeem and fix what we have broken and restore that fellowship.

00:15:36.899 --> 00:15:41.139
And when you read the Old Testament through the lens of the New Testament, that becomes very evident.

00:15:41.299 --> 00:15:45.860
So that was one of the things that you know changed in my faith as I went through this process.

00:15:46.179 --> 00:15:46.819
Yeah.

00:15:47.299 --> 00:15:55.539
You know, obviously, I obviously it was God working with you to help you to write this translation.

00:15:55.620 --> 00:16:06.099
And you said you said earlier that, you know, you're not a theologian, you didn't really have any Bible, you know, Bible college, you know, background, anything like that.

00:16:06.659 --> 00:16:17.379
So what if somebody were to ask you, you know, what qualifications did you think yourself had to write this, what would you what would you say to them?

00:16:17.699 --> 00:16:18.979
Yeah, it's kind of funny.

00:16:19.059 --> 00:16:21.939
I feel like, you know, one of the 12 apostles, right?

00:16:22.099 --> 00:16:24.179
They were ordinary guys, fishermen.

00:16:24.419 --> 00:16:28.259
And yet God used them and changed the world through them.

00:16:28.339 --> 00:16:36.179
Now, I'm not going to be so bold to say God's going to change the world through me, but uh, he has a history of using the common and the ordinary.

00:16:36.419 --> 00:16:40.740
He didn't go, Jesus didn't go to the religious elite of the time.

00:16:40.899 --> 00:16:46.339
He didn't go to those that were uh the leaders religiously.

00:16:46.500 --> 00:16:48.979
He went to the common, everyday man.

00:16:49.299 --> 00:16:54.740
And so I was nervous about doing this, honestly, Dorsey, because of those very reasons.

00:16:54.819 --> 00:16:59.219
Um but yet through it, God seemed to be telling me, it's not about you.

00:16:59.379 --> 00:17:00.339
It's about me.

00:17:00.419 --> 00:17:02.740
It's about me working through you.

00:17:03.059 --> 00:17:06.419
And you've got plenty of resources to help you.

00:17:06.579 --> 00:17:07.779
And he showed me those, right?

00:17:08.099 --> 00:17:13.699
The different translations that are out there and the different commentaries that are out there and the Bible dictionaries that are out there.

00:17:13.939 --> 00:17:19.779
So again, I'm just one guy, but I felt like I had a team of experts supporting me in this journey.

00:17:19.939 --> 00:17:35.219
And I was able to draw from their experience and then, you know, let the Holy Spirit work through me to come up with a new way of saying the same thing, but just in a way that's might be more relatable or easier to understand.

00:17:35.459 --> 00:17:39.619
And there's one illustration I like to use.

00:17:39.939 --> 00:17:43.299
I can say Mike bought a red car.

00:17:44.339 --> 00:17:47.299
That's very simple, very easy to understand, very concise.

00:17:47.539 --> 00:17:51.219
I can also say Mike decided to purchase a vehicle.

00:17:51.379 --> 00:17:52.979
He decided to purchase a car.

00:17:53.059 --> 00:17:56.740
The color choice Mike made was red for his new vehicle.

00:17:57.219 --> 00:18:02.019
You're saying the same thing, but one's just a lot more concise and conveying the same information.

00:18:02.180 --> 00:18:04.980
And that was really my goal as I did this project.

00:18:05.140 --> 00:18:14.259
How can I say it in a concise, easy to understand way for people to get the message without changing the intent of what the author is trying to communicate?

00:18:14.900 --> 00:18:15.300
Right.

00:18:15.620 --> 00:18:20.420
Do you happen to have the Bible translation that you wrote in front of you?

00:18:22.340 --> 00:18:23.940
I can get it in front of me.

00:18:24.340 --> 00:18:25.539
One second here.

00:18:25.860 --> 00:18:27.940
Happen to have a computer screen right here.

00:18:29.140 --> 00:18:30.100
Let me see.

00:18:31.700 --> 00:18:33.060
Yes, I do.

00:18:34.340 --> 00:18:38.420
Would you mind reading Romans 828 from that translation?

00:18:38.500 --> 00:18:44.340
I'm curious to see how that's different than what the other versions that I've heard.

00:18:44.980 --> 00:18:47.300
Yeah, let me open up Romans.

00:18:47.380 --> 00:18:49.140
That's a different file here.

00:18:50.180 --> 00:18:54.660
So bear with me as I find Romans.

00:18:57.380 --> 00:18:58.019
All right.

00:18:58.980 --> 00:19:02.500
And all 16 chapters.

00:19:03.380 --> 00:19:05.300
I love Romans 8.28.

00:19:05.620 --> 00:19:07.700
It is always an encouragement, right?

00:19:07.779 --> 00:19:12.100
When something goes wrong, you think, Lord, what are you doing with this?

00:19:12.340 --> 00:19:14.820
And Romans 8.28 is just a reminder.

00:19:15.060 --> 00:19:20.420
God is sovereign and he can do anything with even the messes that we happen to find ourselves in.

00:19:21.300 --> 00:19:21.940
All right.

00:19:22.420 --> 00:19:24.980
Romans 8.28 from the EUR version.

00:19:25.460 --> 00:19:31.460
We know all things work together for the good of those who love God, those who are called according to his purpose.

00:19:32.740 --> 00:19:39.220
How do you think we could take or make the Bible accessible to everyone?

00:19:40.740 --> 00:19:42.740
That's a wonderful question.

00:19:42.900 --> 00:19:50.100
I think it needs to be accessible to everyone because it has life-changing transformational properties within it.

00:19:50.420 --> 00:19:53.700
One of the things that I've been doing is just getting the word out, right?

00:19:53.779 --> 00:19:59.779
I mean, so many people have been so gracious to talk about the word of God with me and share their love of the word of God with me.

00:19:59.940 --> 00:20:06.180
You, for example, inviting me on this podcast, allowing me just to share my passion for God's word.

00:20:06.660 --> 00:20:16.420
And I want to put it out there just in many different ways as I can, which is why I came out with literally 13 different versions of walking through the Bible in a year.

00:20:16.660 --> 00:20:25.700
So one of the things I went out there and found, Dorsey, was that when I wanted to do a Bible reading, you know, God would inspire me in the month of April.

00:20:25.860 --> 00:20:35.940
Well, I'd look at the plans and it was either start in January and follow through, or just have a book that would say, okay, this is day one, this is day two, this is day three.

00:20:36.100 --> 00:20:42.820
Well, that's great until I get to like day 173 and I don't know where I'm really supposed to be if I happen to get off track.

00:20:43.140 --> 00:20:47.779
So I came up with a version of walking through the Bible of the year through each month.

00:20:47.940 --> 00:20:55.060
So if it's November, you can look at November 3rd and see what you're supposed to read that day, no matter what month you start with.

00:20:55.300 --> 00:20:57.940
So if you want to start April 1st, you can start April 1st.

00:20:58.100 --> 00:21:00.580
You want to start, you know, July 1st, you can start July 1st.

00:21:00.740 --> 00:21:03.539
So I make it very easy for people to get through the word.

00:21:03.779 --> 00:21:10.019
Um and then I have the chronological version of the Bible, which if they want to read it from oldest to newest, they can do it that way.

00:21:10.180 --> 00:21:18.660
Um and then the regular version of the Bible, where, you know, it's just Genesis through Revelation, all 66 books in order as they have historically been.

00:21:19.860 --> 00:21:26.900
And I think just offering, you know, those different formats, those different versions, makes it easier for people.

00:21:27.060 --> 00:21:34.340
Now, something that was unintentional, but obviously God had planned, was offering the individual books of the Bible as well.

00:21:34.580 --> 00:21:58.740
So if somebody is just thinking about the Bible or they want to do a deep dive on a specific book and they only want to study the book of Romans, well, I've got the book of Romans that they can get by itself and just listen to it or read through it and only have to go through one book instead of having if somebody just wants to do a study on like the book of Romans, I have that available for them as just the book of Romans.

00:21:58.900 --> 00:22:02.100
They can purchase or read just that portion of the scripture.

00:22:02.180 --> 00:22:04.100
They don't have to have the entire Bible.

00:22:04.180 --> 00:22:06.580
Um, and again, that wasn't something that I intended.

00:22:06.660 --> 00:22:11.460
It's just as I was working through it, a God kind of led me to do it that way.

00:22:11.620 --> 00:22:19.539
And really what I found is that that's a lot of the purchases that happen from Audible, just people buying the individual books.

00:22:19.700 --> 00:22:24.580
And then sometimes they'll do that and think, okay, this guy is worth listening to more on.

00:22:24.740 --> 00:22:32.500
So they'll buy another book or buy the, you know, the entire New Testament or the Old Testament or just the Pentateuch, or just listen to the Gospels, for example.

00:22:32.820 --> 00:22:36.019
So yeah, there's there's multiple ways that people can engage with the word.

00:22:36.180 --> 00:22:37.220
I've got it out there.

00:22:37.460 --> 00:22:42.100
Just trying to make it as accessible and easy to use as as possible.

00:22:42.259 --> 00:22:46.340
So however they want to consume it, I probably have a version for them.

00:22:46.660 --> 00:22:47.140
Yeah.

00:22:47.460 --> 00:22:55.460
Did you ever think about contacting UV or contacting Bible Gateway to try to get it on there as well?

00:22:56.420 --> 00:22:57.940
That might be something in the future.

00:22:58.019 --> 00:23:02.820
Um, right now I've just been out talking about my version, seeing what God does with it.

00:23:02.980 --> 00:23:08.180
But yeah, I mean, if they were interested in carrying my version, I'd certainly be more than open to.

00:23:08.580 --> 00:23:10.980
Seen what God wants to do through that avenue as well.

00:23:12.740 --> 00:23:19.860
And we all know, you know, there are gonna be critics out there and people that, you know, don't like certain things.

00:23:20.180 --> 00:23:20.420
Sure.

00:23:20.660 --> 00:23:37.940
And how do you respond to critics who might say that, you know, not only your version, but other versions, you know, might be, you know, watering down the Bible or losing the nuance and complexity of the original text.

00:23:38.820 --> 00:23:41.380
Yeah, no matter what you do, there's going to be critics, right?

00:23:41.620 --> 00:23:45.380
Not everybody likes the same thing, which I think is wonderful.

00:23:45.460 --> 00:23:50.100
You know, Baskin Robbins carries more than one flavor of ice cream for a reason.

00:23:50.340 --> 00:23:52.900
So this is just another flavor, right?

00:23:52.980 --> 00:23:57.700
And if they want to choose Rocky Road, they can choose Rocky Road.

00:23:57.779 --> 00:24:00.820
If they want mint chocolate chip, they can choose mint chocolate chip.

00:24:01.140 --> 00:24:04.820
You know, I'm not saying this is the only one true version.

00:24:04.980 --> 00:24:08.500
This is just another avenue for people to explore.

00:24:08.740 --> 00:24:11.940
And, you know, different versions are going to speak to different people.

00:24:12.100 --> 00:24:21.779
I mentioned earlier, King James version, you know, I'll I'll read it once in a while for reference, but it doesn't really speak to me the way a different version will.

00:24:22.180 --> 00:24:26.259
So if they don't like it, okay, move on to another version.

00:24:26.340 --> 00:24:29.060
You know, I'm not going to take it personally.

00:24:29.220 --> 00:24:30.900
I know God is using this version.

00:24:30.980 --> 00:24:36.340
I've had uh testimonies from people who say how it's blessed their life and helped them get back into the word.

00:24:36.740 --> 00:24:39.860
And so I'm thankful for what he's doing through it.

00:24:40.019 --> 00:24:44.420
And, you know, if they're not blessed by it and they're blessed by another version, great.

00:24:44.740 --> 00:24:45.860
Get into that version.

00:24:45.940 --> 00:24:49.300
I I it doesn't matter to me what version of the Bible you're reading.

00:24:49.460 --> 00:24:54.180
I just want to make sure that you're in the Bible and reading it and allowing God to speak to you through it.

00:24:54.340 --> 00:24:57.140
So if they don't like it, it's okay with me.

00:24:57.620 --> 00:25:01.940
What's the most gambling part of the Bible to translate?

00:25:02.100 --> 00:25:04.740
And how did you book that into a version?

00:25:06.100 --> 00:25:10.340
You know, one of the most challenging things, Dorsey, is just the size of it, right?

00:25:10.420 --> 00:25:19.220
It's uh it's a huge book, 750,000 words in total, and just breaking it up piece by piece was helpful to me.

00:25:19.300 --> 00:25:20.420
Um so doing that.

00:25:20.580 --> 00:25:25.140
But specifically, you know, I remember struggling with Corinthians for some reason.

00:25:25.300 --> 00:25:28.100
I thought first and second Corinthians was a challenge.

00:25:28.420 --> 00:25:31.380
You know, I I wish Paul would have had an editor.

00:25:31.539 --> 00:25:34.019
It would make things easier for me.

00:25:34.259 --> 00:25:43.380
But, you know, he wrote in a specific way, and I think there's a reason for that because it forces you to dig deeper to understand what he is saying.

00:25:43.460 --> 00:25:47.860
Um, but yeah, I remember going through Corinthians thinking, wow, this is a challenge.

00:25:48.019 --> 00:25:50.100
And it wasn't one that I had expected, you know.

00:25:50.180 --> 00:25:52.980
Everyone knows 1 Corinthians 13 talks about love.

00:25:53.220 --> 00:25:57.700
Well, that's that's one portion, but there's a lot more going on in Corinthians than just that.

00:25:59.539 --> 00:26:07.220
How do you bounce things through to the original method while using modern language?

00:26:07.940 --> 00:26:18.019
Yeah, that was one of the concerns that I had because I wanted to make sure that I wasn't going to do anything to dilute the word of God or dumb it down, so to speak.

00:26:18.340 --> 00:26:26.580
So I what I wanted to do is make sure that anything I wrote was going to line up with what's historically out there.

00:26:26.820 --> 00:26:32.580
And, you know, God bless all the people that have worked on other translations because they were a huge help to me.

00:26:32.820 --> 00:26:41.539
So I was able to come up with something, right, and writing it in a way that I thought was understandable, easy to understand and digest.

00:26:41.700 --> 00:26:57.300
And then I can validate what I've got by looking at, you know, five or six other different historical translations that are out there, be it NIV, NLT, RSV, whatever, and make sure that we're all kind of saying the same thing, but yet in a different way.

00:26:57.460 --> 00:27:03.140
So I would say, you know, having those other translations available to me was a was a huge help.

00:27:04.259 --> 00:27:06.580
Now you mentioned Audible.

00:27:06.820 --> 00:27:14.340
Is Audible the only way to get your Clink Lincoln or also available on Amazon?

00:27:14.740 --> 00:27:16.019
It is available on Amazon.

00:27:16.100 --> 00:27:25.380
Yeah, Amazon's available for the ebooks, and I've got some softbound books and a couple of hardbound books as well that they're available on Amazon.

00:27:25.539 --> 00:27:29.220
Um but my goal was to do the audio version, right?

00:27:29.300 --> 00:27:31.060
Because I'm a voiceover talent.

00:27:31.300 --> 00:27:37.220
So in order to do the audio version, you have to have a print version or an online version for people.

00:27:37.460 --> 00:27:44.580
So I had to put the online version out there in order to get the audible or the audio version out there.

00:27:44.740 --> 00:27:52.100
So yeah, it's available on Amazon and ebook or hardback or paperback or the audio version on Audible.

00:27:52.500 --> 00:27:58.660
So if we get the audio version, we'll hear Dan Paul's voice the whole way through the Bible?

00:27:59.060 --> 00:27:59.779
All the way through.

00:28:00.420 --> 00:28:01.220
All the way through.

00:28:02.019 --> 00:28:04.660
From Genesis to Revelation, it's all me.

00:28:05.060 --> 00:28:10.740
It's funny because I would think I would get tired of listening to myself after a while.

00:28:10.980 --> 00:28:12.980
But Audible gives stats.

00:28:13.140 --> 00:28:25.380
And I think it was the month of May I looked, and they said people had spent over 640 hours listening to you know my version of the Bible, which is just astounding to me.

00:28:25.460 --> 00:28:30.900
You know, the thought of speaking for 640 hours into people's lives, and they're doing it willingly.

00:28:31.060 --> 00:28:32.660
Nobody's forcing them to do it.

00:28:33.140 --> 00:28:35.860
It's just uh just a gift of God to me.

00:28:38.820 --> 00:28:44.740
What are, you know, extend well, not extend it because you can't extend the Bible translation.

00:28:45.380 --> 00:28:48.180
What's next for you in your future?

00:28:49.220 --> 00:28:54.100
Yeah, so I really want to get the word out about the version of the Bible that I've got out there now.

00:28:54.180 --> 00:29:01.060
And so that's that's why I'm talking to uh people like you who are interested in the word of God and things of God and promoting that.

00:29:01.140 --> 00:29:03.380
So that's what's on the immediate horizon.

00:29:03.539 --> 00:29:05.700
In the background, I've got a little something cooking.

00:29:05.940 --> 00:29:09.140
God has been stirring my heart about generation Gen Z.

00:29:09.380 --> 00:29:15.700
I have a son who's Gen Z, and I see some of the things that he struggles through, that generation struggles through.

00:29:15.860 --> 00:29:18.820
And I thought I'd like to be able to speak to them.

00:29:18.980 --> 00:29:38.259
Uh so I've got devotional coming out, um, a father's words to Gen Z, or Dad's Words to Gen Z, walking through the Bible in a year, uh where it just has little anecdotes and a devotional for each day based on certain scripture, where I just kind of talk about my life, how I've seen God work, and just give them encouragement.

00:29:38.340 --> 00:29:51.140
Uh, let them know that God is sovereign in their lives, let them know that God loves them, let them know that God has a plan and a purpose for them, let them know that God is wanting to use them in his kingdom to help build it.

00:29:51.300 --> 00:29:54.580
And just let them know that they have value and that they have worth.

00:29:54.740 --> 00:29:56.660
So that's going to be coming out at some point.

00:29:56.740 --> 00:29:59.140
I've got it mostly written.

00:29:59.380 --> 00:30:03.940
What I need to do now is just kind of go back, edit it, and then narrate it as well.

00:30:04.100 --> 00:30:07.860
So it's 365 devotionals, so it's taken me a little bit of time.

00:30:07.940 --> 00:30:11.860
But hopefully by the end of the year, that's the goal, be able to have that out there.

00:30:11.940 --> 00:30:13.860
So it dads words to Gen Z.

00:30:14.180 --> 00:30:14.420
Okay.

00:30:15.220 --> 00:30:18.019
Well, I'll have the show notes and everything.

00:30:18.100 --> 00:30:20.980
I'll have the link to the show notes.

00:30:21.940 --> 00:30:30.660
I'll have the link to the audio bible and to the Amazon on my show notes so that people can check you out.

00:30:30.740 --> 00:30:33.380
And do you have a website or anything?

00:30:34.180 --> 00:30:36.740
I have a website, party on me voices.com.

00:30:36.820 --> 00:30:39.779
It's just really one that I've got for our voiceover work.

00:30:39.860 --> 00:30:43.940
So when people want to hear our voices, what it sounds like, they can listen there.

00:30:44.180 --> 00:30:46.900
But really, most of my stuff is on Audible.

00:30:46.980 --> 00:30:51.779
I have a page on Audible where everything that I've narrated is listed.

00:30:51.860 --> 00:30:53.940
So that's usually where I refer people.

00:30:54.259 --> 00:30:54.980
Awesome.

00:30:55.380 --> 00:30:59.460
Well, thank you, Dan, so much for coming on the show today.

00:30:59.620 --> 00:31:01.539
We greatly appreciate having you.

00:31:01.940 --> 00:31:02.900
It's been my pleasure.

00:31:03.060 --> 00:31:03.539
Thanks so much.

00:31:03.620 --> 00:31:08.019
Thanks for your heart and thanks for your ministry and just your passion for the Word of God.

00:31:08.180 --> 00:31:08.500
